I forget exactly how it happened now but a year or so ago I was locked out of the account management for the a domain I had registered many years ago (and still use). It was extremely difficult to get to an actual live person and when I did, one of the pieces of security information they wanted was the last four digits of the credit card i had originally used when opening the account...more than a decade ago. By this point, i had been using PayPal to pay for years and had no idea what credit card I had used and the number had certainly changed more than once. After digging through old e-mails and paperwork for hours I finally figured it out but man what a pain.

I got it sorted but it is a bit silly that they expect you to remember all of that. I mean, I am happy that they are trying to prevent my card / account from being used by someone else but to just blanket lock me out without so much as actually emailing me the actual email that they said would accompany this ban is just ridiculous.
