Hi there. I have a Pokemon TCG Pocket post here.
Do you want to play something other than the popular Pikachu and Mewtwo decks? Are you sick of losing to Mewtwo ex with Gardevoir? Take a look at this Arbok & Weezing deck. It is a counter to Mewtwo ex decks as it hits for +20 damage weakness against Psychic Pokemon.
Deck Profile
I could not really find a picture of one Weezing and Arbok deck list. Here is a typed deck list with some images of key cards.
- 2 Ekans
- 2 Arbok
- 2 Koffing
- 2 Weezing
- 2 Professor's Research (Oak)
- 2 Poke Ball
- 2 Potion
- 1 X Speed
- 2 Sabrina
- 1 Giovanni
- 1 Koga
- 1 Red Card

With this deck it is ideal to have the first attacker as a Weezing. Weezing requires one Dark energy to do 30 damage along with its 10 extra Poison damage from the Gas Leak ability. You do 40 damage per turn from the Weezing. If you are against Psychic decks such as Mewtwo ex then the Weezing does an extra 20 damage. This results in 60 damage from 30 + 20 for weakness + 10 poison damage.
Koga is a good supporter to remove your damaged Weezing from the Active Spot into your hand. When you play the Koga card the Koffing returns to your hand as well. It is a combined healing and switch effect. The next Pokemon you bring up could be a different Koffing that you can evolve into Weezing or an Arbok.
Arbok is an okay attacker. You need one Dark Energy and one Colourless Energy to do 60 damage with an added no retreat effect for your opponent in his/her next turn. The Arbok with a Sabrina can theoretically trap a Pokemon ex that is not ready to attack into the active spot.
I put one copy of Giovanni for the extra 10 damage for Weezing mainly. It could be cut out for something else. A second Koga maybe.
The deck contains the standard 2 Professor's Research and 2 Pokeballs. I put one XSpeed for the occasional retreat, one Red Card for hand disruption and 2 Potions for healing to turn 2 hits into 3 hits from opponent attacks. A few cards in this deck can be swapped out for other things.
Pros
- A decent counter against Mewtwo ex Decks
- Arbok to trap Pokemon and knock them out in 2 attacks.
- Koga is a nice supporter to avoid knockouts on Weezing.
- Single prize Pokemon
Cons
- Games can be much longer than usual
- No one hit knockout power against Pokemon ex
- Weak to Fighting types
- Weak matchup against Pikachu ex decks as they typically have one retreat cost. Retreating removes Poison effect.
