They say you never quit Eve Online you just end up taking a long break from it. It’s quite true I've been away from the game for many years. It’s always a struggle and interesting trying to return to such a massive game like this.
While I've talked a little bit about Eve Online in the past. For the most part, I've only hopped into the game a couple of times since I've been writing content online. With Eve Online being a PvP people like me enjoy the PvE side of it for the most part. There is only so much you can showcase without giving away too much information when it comes to walking into PvP situations and being at a disadvantage.

One of the biggest things that always stands out whenever I return to Eve Online is they are always redoing the UI more often than some change pairs of socks. While these UI changes are not always massive. They have undergone some change even from the last time I quickly logged into this game and back out again a few years back.
There are all kinds of new shiny buttons added to the left side of the UI. Some rather cool new systems that were just not around back in my day. Let alone around the many times I'd end up returning to Eve Online in the first place. My main character was created back in 2008. It’s crazy to think I still have a character in a game from that era of gaming that I still get to play.
The first order of business is trying to get some kind of bankroll going. You would think with how old my main is that I'd be some crazy rich Eve Online player. I was always one to pay for my Eve Online Subs by baying Plex from players from round when those were introduced into the game. So that alone would drain mostly what I made every month.
The rest of my funds for the most part was lost or blown up. After all, it’s a PvP game. Anything you put into space can and will get blown up at some point.
I kind of wish I had left myself some kind of PvE farming ship behind to rebuild from. Everything I had from the last time I played was on a citadel in a wormhole my friends and I were living at for the time.
That got blown up. What did not get blown up and looted in that instance? Was sold off so I'd at least have a little starting funds. It however is not quite enough. So I ended up going around to all my characters and accounts assessing what assets I had remaining. Along with sending anything of value over to one of my trade alts.
Eve Online is one of those games where your main might be off doing one thing. It could also be in a corporation that is a war with another alliance. You could have killed rights on you from PvP. You could also just be in a not-so-easy place to get out of.
As such you tend to have alts all over the place for all kinds of things. I have alts for exploration from back when I lived in wormholes. I have alts for spying. I have alts for faction PvP. Needless to say, I had a lot of alts.

Sadly, most of them alts did not have much remaining. I did find over 1 billion in ISK worth of stuff. Most I decided to keep them where they were and what alpha setups they had. As many were on free-to-play accounts. I might have a use for them at some point.
The rest I ended up contracting over once bringing my alts over to the major trading hubs of Eve Online. While there are many places people will try and sell items in Eve Online. Places like Jita (the biggest one), Rens, and Amarr are the main trading hubs in high security. I also have alts in some of them set up for trading.
I’d then contract over to my trading alts any items. This allowed me to condense a lot of items into just a couple of characters. From there I set up quite a few sell orders and started to get some ISK.

The biggest issue is I can’t instantly just upgrade to the subscription Omega stats. Back in my day 1 Plex equaled 30 days of game time. Now it’s 500 Plex equals 30 days. While a single Plex is no longer insanely expensive since they did a 1:500. The overall price for 30 days has gone up a bit. I’d need 3.14 billion ISK. That is a little more than I have on hand in liquidity at the moment.
While I was also moving some characters and loot around. I was doing things like trying to set up UI the way I wanted it. I kind of wish some of my old pre-setups were still around. They were not, however.
I was also kind of sad to see some of my favorite classic third-party tools seem to be mostly dead and abandoned. Back in the day things like Evemon were more or less a requirement. Nowadays the game has lots of in-game tools and systems I'll have to further explore.
Newer players don’t know how good they have it nowadays. Back in my day if you had skill training ending at 4 AM you were waking up at 4 AM to start a new skill. You also were a moron if you did not switch over to another skill to train through the night so you did not have to wake up at such an insane time. Then again many of us gamers can still be found awake at such a crazy hour.
On top of the UI changes there are also so many new things I need to learn about. It was in part the reason I decided to come back to the game and even create a little mini-series. Some new activities are going to be my main focus at least for the time being.
I also got some surprises along the way while out moving my characters around. I got this pop-up while about to jump through a gate. I was half expected to get blown up on the other side. Thankfully I have no standing with whatever was going on in a few of the systems that had this warning. There was also a lot of stuff on the other side of the game I quickly warped off just in case.
Final Thoughts
I’m not quite sure what kinds of trouble I'll be getting into. Along with frequency, I'll be posting about my Eve Online adventure. I have a couple of short-term things I'll be looking into and posting about. From there who knows? Eve Online is one of those rather slow most of the time, then, flying by the seat of your pants at random other times.

EvE Online, to me, was quite a fun idea. One universe, players everywhere, chance encounters, no idea of what laid in the next system in low - null sectors and generally the attitude of the community. I've given it a few replays myself recently but just cannot get into it as the time I spend playing it now feels miniscule to players / corporations that have been floating around New Eden for years.
One thing I found exciting was the exploration / scanning for anomalies or unique sites hidden in the space between. The Omega subscription is harsh in its restrictions and the fact that any 'exclusive' skills are locked once the subscription runs out is a bit of a game killer for me.
Still, the stories that have sprung out of EvE Online have almost always been worthy reads from excellent scams to total robbery of digital assets.
EvE Frontier will probably spawn some more stories that affect more than the game.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and rediscovery of EvE Online! It was smart to spread out the assets amongst alts and just recover them later.
I'm tempted to check out Eve Frontier at some point. For now I'm just sticking with Eve Online. CCP Games has also had so many failed game attempts it make me want to wait a while before checking into Frontier.
Small corp activities is where I tend to find most of my fun in the game. A long time ago I even lived in a wormhole with a couple of people. Anything bigger then just a couple always seemed short lived. The power and wealth of those old alliances are crazy.
Exploration is quite fun. At some point I might go around on some big exploration trips. For the short term I only did a couple exploration site sin high sec. Usually just to finish off the daily. Even had one site have 22 million in a can. Which I was not expecting for high sec.
It is a bit of a shame to plex for 30 days is something like 3.2 billion ISK now. I use to just buy the plex for the game time.
I ended up picking up a nice little deal for some game time. Beyond that I'll be doing a decent amount of stuff as a alpha.
Always kind of fun to return and see all the stuff I’ve missed. Play a little bit. Then go back on another long break. As they say people never quite Eve Online. They just take long breaks lol.
My Badger II got blown up on the far side of 0.8 space gates. Two arseholes waiting for me there. It should not happen in safe space but did.
I still have a Raven sitting around as well as lots of ISK. I don't have a any intention of going back.
High sec is wild sometimes. Gankers everywhere these days.
I use to live out of a wormhole. We kept our citadel up with lots of stuff in it after we went on a break as a corp mate was going to keep playing and just call us in if things went down. He went on a break and didn't tell anyone. RIP billions.
That was one edgy game, only Everquest (the original and before it was loosened up and made easy) came close.
Cheers to the good old days of camping for weeks for a single item in EQ.
Haha.. you were there?
I was in a raiding guild for many years.
Temple of Veeshan - fun, Plane of Fear PUG... - not fun!
Welcome back to your game bro
Thanks.
