[Let's Babble] Starfield!

First off, I'd just like to say that I'm grateful that Starfield's photo-mode has these frames in it that put 'Starfield' on the image. xD Because, I don't know if you've noticed, but I've become quite lazy at creating header images for my posts. This little eensy feature pleases me.

Second of all, I just want to announce to whomever reads this: StarUI is now a thing! As seen in the screenshot above. It only deals with the inventory menu, but I'm looking forward to the day all the other menus are cleaned up too!

You can find it on NexusMods here:
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/773

Keeping in mind that more updates will likely come for it in future days. It's already had five updates since being originally uploaded so undoubtedly more will be coming. Either way. I've got it and it makes me soooo happy.

So, naturally, I've been absolutely living in this game since I bought it in the middle of its five-day early access. I'm currently 30 hours in and I've loved every moment of it so far.

Performance-wise, I did end up getting the Nvidia DLSS mod that's on NexusMods (not PureDark's — imagine, charging money for a mod other people make for free) but I'm looking forward to when Bethesda codes it into their game properly. I'm now getting a solid 60fps on High/Ultra settings at 4K. Keeping in mind my resolution is set to 78% of that. At least you can't notice.

I also grabbed a ReShade that removes the overly green "sci-fi" tone of the game, also. Makes the entire game so much clearer which is lovely. You can find that here:
https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/235

The game is lovely to look at as is... but now it's gorgeous without the green tint.

image.png

But then — I'm pretty easy to please. I think Skyrim is gorgeous too. Even moreso with modded 4K textures created by the playerbase and not the devs. As such, I'm sooooo looking forward to modders creating their own textures for this game.

If history repeats itself — which I am certain it will — player-made 4K textures will be vastly superior in appearance and in size, thus enabling the game to run smoother.

Here's a picture of my character standing proudly over her first outpost.

During some quests that I did, I picked up two people I met at the very start of the game and discovered that they had a knack of Outpost Management and Outpost Engineering. So I decided I'd better build an outpost so they had somewhere to go.

It's a small ugly thing with my minimal resources, but I've got them farming up some Chlorine. Ahhhhh, it's just like No Man's Sky all over again. Farming Chlorine! — I don't think Chlorine is very useful for anything or worthy of trading, but I just wanted to build an outpost and that was the first resource in the area. xD

image.png

I haven't gotten very far in the main story quests. I've just been roaming around, doing side quests, exploring random places. I've taken over a few pirate ships and sold them.

I'm a little disappointed that ships aren't worth more. When you go into the ship-building menu, you can easily spend hundreds of thousands of credits fiddling around with everything. I don't have enough money yet to make my dream ship.

BUT.

Find a ship? Kill the crew and take it over? Go to sell it? You fly it to the nearest spaceship tech, register the vehicle for 13,000 or whatever... and then... sell it for 16,000 for a tiny 3k profit. Not worth it at all.

image.png

So I'm just farting around, doing my own thing. You know, what you're supposed to do in a Bethesda game. xD

I think what I would like to do is just roam around, do bounties, do a couple of quests, earn some money, then build up a bunch of different outposts all over the galaxy. Each one will have different things to mine, and then I'll build a huuuuuge cargo ship! And get all the outposts to transfer everything to the cargo ship automatically. And then I'll be the greatest resource goblin the galaxy has ever seen.

image.png

Inventory space is the main thing you need to manage in this. All those resources you find for crafting weigh a heap. I put an extra cargo bay on my ship so I have 750kg I can haul and it's still not enough. I'm gonna need around 10,000kg. 😅

I've found a few items of gear with carry capacity on them, thankfully, so my character can currently carry 225kg of gear around. And at the Constellation Lodge, there is an infinite storage box in your room. But I want all my resources on my ship since you can craft directly from the cargo hold.

Finally, to end today's post, I'd like to share my favourite screenshot I've taken so far. Not because it's a beautiful screenshot, but because it was a fun one!

We were having a shoot-out in a no gravity environment!! So much fun! 😁

Until next time!! 🚀🔥

I love that one of the first things you did and that the game devs allowed is you modded the game! 😂 I downloaded it for my PC, but I only have enough room on my HDD to run it and from what Reddit tells me it's not going to work. Ahh well, I hope you post more blogs about it so I can read about your experience in the game!

Betheesda themselves recommended it, haha.

Before the game released into early access, they informed the world that they had a partnership with AMD and the game would not have Nvidia DLSS. So the very first thing they did before launch was give the files to a modder so that the game could have a modded version of DLSS in the game. This way they wouldn't breach their contract with AMD and the playerbase could still experience the game properly with their Nvidia cards. xD

As for the thousands of UI's and menus in this game. It's GOD AWFUL. I don't know what they were thinking, lmao. Definitely needed to be modded.

Sounds like you're lacking some storage.:p

I noticed that most of Bethesda's modern games have this grey-green tone. Their devs could be fans of 1960s' movies and The Matrix movies.

Probably. It looks awful though. xD But hooray for Reshade!

Bethesda has been very successful with this game. The vast majority of players praise it and the community is putting a lot of love into it by making mods.
Something that is enjoyed about Bethesda games is that we go on our own and do not deal with the main story at all.

Absolutely!! I never completed the main story of Morrowind, or Oblivion. I did finish the main stories of Skyrim and Fallout 4, and I was still happy to spend hours doing my own thing. 😊

Starfield is a great game, I feel that in the same way there are certain promises that the developers made as not having loading screens and really to travel to other planets from riding the ship there is already some other loading screen that does not detract from the great other features of the game plus it just came out and surely with more updates will be great.

Another game I'll have to wait a few years to play haha. It's interesting how it reminds me a bit of Cyberpunk, even in some of the bug situations I've seen in other Gameplay Lives. But it's still a great game.

I haven't really had any bugs yet. I've had one crash, and one black screen after loading which was fixed by pressing esc and then esc again to get back into the game. Nothing horrifying xD Well, random NPC faces can be horrifying. They definitely have some Bethesda Bug-Eye going on.

As a Bethesda Gamer, I expect bugs... and I expect Bethesda to do absolutely nothing about them, and I expect the community to make an Unofficial Patch. That's how things go! 😄
