It's been a day today, that's for sure!
I panicked, irrationally, for the first time since all the coronavirus stuff smacked us in the face. Some bozo MP said something about closing shopping centres and my brain zoomed into the fact that GROCERY STORES are in shopping centres and I ain't got shit. My partner, currently stuck overseas, bought me an e-giftcard and sent me off to the shops to grab a few things before my actual payday, my son got sent home from school because of an allergy cough, I'm officially locked inside, alone with him for God knows how long, and I freaked out.
Of course they're not closing grocery stores yet, I'm an idiot.
Anyway. To calm down a bit I decided to play a game.

Ten days ago I finally had a character left alive at the end of @mattclarke's #poecomp!
Today, without the blood, tears, and irrational fear of death, I decided to keep playing Kaelci the Immortal and see how far I could actually take her! 😃
Which turned out to not be very far and I'm glad I stopped when I did on the day of the competition. 😅

I don't know if other people have the same problem, but after opening Path of Exile I need to sit around and do nothing for anywhere between 2 and 5 minutes while waiting for things to load.
That floating head behind my character didn't manifest a body for a good while today and I was beginning to wonder if I should close the thing and reopen it when finally all was as it should be.
At last. After many impatient moments. It was time to continue on this Immortal legacy!

When I finished up on the day of the #poecomp, I had reached Piety's Portal and decided to call it a night. I didn't want to risk another proper boss fight when I had levelled up so much.
Turns out she wasn't really a proper boss fight.
I killed her in under 10 seconds.
And felt silly that I didn't just kill her on that night in question. 😅 Too easy, as my son would say.

Joining this corpse pile was not to be her fate!

After Piety's quick demise, Kaelci the Immortal braved torrential rain to find the high templar!
I'll be honest. I have no idea wtf the story is in this game and why I'm even searching for this guy. I have never really stopped to read the quests, listen to the dialogue, or pay attention to the random lore things you find in the wild.
I've read a couple of things. Like, the second time you come across that ghost pirate guy, what's-his-face, he has an amusing spiel about some whores or something. But other than that, I don't really know anything about this game except it's fun levelling a character and finding good loots.
And that it was made by Kiwis.
It's an Action RPG! I don't have time for story. 😂

So, Kaelci the Immortal braved the torrential rain and soon found herself atop the very rooftop her quarry stood upon.
She braved waves of random creatures with aplomb!
She braved Dominus the High Templar himself!
But then.
He transformed into a demon from the otherworld...

...and feasted on our Immortal's blood!
Want to know something funny?
Within two or three seconds of that death notice appearing on screen, apparently the Immortal's ballistas were still firing annnnd... this happened:

Ahh, too little too late! 😂
Kaelci the Immortal breathed her last and now all that's left is to await her successor when #poecomp begins once more in a few months.
I'm mostly just grateful I was able to get my mind out of the real world for a couple of hours today. 🙂🙃
Until next time,
Thanks for stopping by!
This game is an incredible one!
Thanks to Matt for introducing me.
Grocery shops won't close any time soon - they're needed. What I don't understand is the limits on stuff. You may buy more than two things of milk, for instance, to last you a fortnight - but now, through the major supermarkets, "nope, 2 per customer".
This will force people to make additional visits to the shop, which will cause more people to be out at once, which leads to more exposure, which leads to more... well, statistics are statistics for a reason!
Yeah, the grocery stores. 😅 I was very irrational yesterday. I know that they won't close, that they're one of the essential services that really need to stay open. That, if anything, they'll end up restricting a certain amount of shoppers at a time. I just had a "moment" yesterday.
Ugh, the 2-per-customer thing. And milk especially. My son goes through 2L a day, more if I let him. I understand from a more-stock-to-go-around perspective, but from a normal non-panic-buyer's perspective (until yesterday xD) I just want to do my shopping, get out, and not return for another two weeks. Before we end up one of those statistics.
One positive though! My son got sent home from school yesterday because he has a cough -- he has hayfever but I understand their concern -- and hasn't been to the shops since this all began. For the first time he saw the empty shelves...
After what feels like years of begging him to ask before taking out of the pantry, he's actually asking now. He doesn't know much about the situation, just whatever he hears at school and my dumbed-down version of "The Sickness," but those empty shelves really got him.

Thank you! 😊
I really have to give this a second go! Anyway, I'm sure that you weren't the only panicked shopper... Best of luck in the coming weeks, sorry to hear that your partner is stranded overseas.
Plenty of time to practice before the next #poecomp :)
Haha... you looking for cannon fodder....
Normally I'm pretty chill, but that news -- "Lockdown! We don't want people dying for dinner, at a shopping centre! Decision tonight!" freaked me out. I don't get paid til Friday and I shop fortnightly. There's always 2-and-a-bit weeks worth of food and things here, but there's that sudden fear, "Oh no. I can't go shopping for two more days. Are they really saying what I think they are??? No!"
And I spazzed. 😂
My partner is a US citizen in the process of immigrating here. He's been over there since the end of January and was aiming to return next week. Guess it'll be a bit longer than that.
But, anyway!! Yes! You should definitely give this game a second go! 😃 I played it sporadically back when it was first released but couldn't really get into it and it felt buggy and bleh. Then when I found out about #poecomp I decided to try it again.
It's much improved! I really like it now.
Yeah its some pretty fantastic escapism; and the price is right.
Captain Fairgraves is the ghost. His second mission, (Chitus Plum and the Decanter Spiritus), is really not worth doing, considering you just get a choice of rares as a reward. I've never found anything to replace what I'm wearing.
Dominus, the guy you Romeo and Julieted with; has a bubble around him, to protect him from that blood rain.
Ironically, close is the only safe space. Everywhere else is death.
They won't shut the shops, and enough of the supply chain is automated that nobody's going to go hungry (unless they run out of money).

I will remember this for the next #poecomp. 😉 After trying the fight on a non-essential-character first, of course! I've only done the fight once before and didn't really remember what happened.
At least it was a mutual death.
Yeah, I was just having a "moment" yesterday. 😂 By the time the woolies giftcard arrived, I had calmed down a bit. Decided to go anyway though, get some stuff and get some more on Friday.
I don't have a car. And after talking to the Taxi driver yesterday, they're contemplating shutting down over the next couple of weeks. So I'd better get what I can tomorrow! The shops won't close, but my transportation will be.
Path Of Exile is such a well polished game :) At least now I have no excuse not to play more games since I can't go out that much...
Haha! Yeah, quarantine and self-isolation is a good time for gaming at least. 🙂
This game look like fun but hard. I wouldnt mind playing it or at least giving it a try.
As for the gift card for food. You're my @kaelci and i love you. I no want you to be hungry or worry. It was an easy decision. Take care of my family and make sure they have what they need.
❤️😊
"to calm down I decided to play a game"
reads the title
starts sweating for all the PTDS this game has caused to him
😆
A state of mind thing. Normally when I play it's during #poecomp and I'm hyper-alert and freaking out all the time. As an escape and just mindlessly attacking things, it's not so bad!
