Hello, gamers. Welcome back to my blog.
During my last gaming session, I was assigned a mission to retrieve a blood sample from a carcass of Bison. We were in the Hirschfeldon Hunting reserve, more specifically in the Rinderland George area. Bhandari is studying about Europian bisons and trying to reintroduce them to this area.
But they hit a roadblock as some mysterious disease is killing them. And we need to investigate. So, on this mission. I woke up to a nice morning in the woods. I was greeted with the call of a Roe deer. I followed it and got closer and killed it.
Roe deer are one of the smallest deers in this part of the world. They are considered as only level 3 animals and I had much powerful weapon so, I didn't get all the harvest check. My bullet penetrated both lungs easily.
"I should not be hunting deer and focus on my mission", I thought. So, I went looking and within in a couple of mins I found 2 Bisons, they were coming towards me. I laid on the ground to reduce my visiblity and started observing them. I was expecting them to die from the disease, I guess.
I ran out of patience and decided to hunt them and look for a bigger herd. I took aim and to my surprise, It was a perfect heart shot. It dropped dead in a blink of an eye.
Since, it was relatively smaller female. It gave only the silver medal. Which is still fine for levelling up and getting extra cash from your kills.
I search for a bigger herd. I roamed around the area. The weather changed slowly and it was foggy with little rain drops falling from the sky. This dynamic weather is a great addition to this game. Loved it!
I saw a grassy meadow and there lie a dead Bison. I was sure, I didn't kill it. So, that must be the disease. I went and harvest the blood sample which finished my mission. This was a main story mission.
Now Mr. Bhadari gave us more missions but these are side-missions. The first one was easy, I needed to spot 1 Bison.
It was still foggy and I went looking for one. On the northern side of this area, there was a small lake. So, I went there thinking I will find one drinking water here. I was right again. I took a nice photo while hiding in the bushes. This marked the end of the first side-mission that Bhandari gave us.
Now Bhandari wanted to see some tracks and gave me the mission to ID three unique types of tracks from 3 different Bisons. Not sure how this helps in its reserch but whatever. I was still hiding in the bushes and one Bison was in front of me. I looked around and saw another one drinking in the same lake. So, I hunted both of them. Spotted their tracks and I now needed just 1 more track.
Later, I found the last one as well and that also marked the completion of this side mission. The forest in this part of the reserve is dense with high spruce trees and the fogg blankets the whole area reducing the visibility but making the atmosphere so peaceful. I feel like this might be my favourite map from the entire game.
Thanks for reading...
Until next time...

I wonder how you track a single target individually, do you have markers or some kind of tracking skill in game? Because I see no mentions on a mechanic but rather like some kind of easy to spot and do thing, so its weird, how would you describe the tracking? Because in real life tracking is the hardest part of hunting xD
First, you have to explore the area and find out which area which species of animals in abundant. The warden of the park gave you an idea and then when you explore, there are "need zones" like drinking zones or resting zones or feeding zones where depending on the time of the day there is a much greater probability to find animals.
Once you initially discover a need zone in a map, it gets pinned to your map with the species and time window for that need zones.
Now coming on to the actual tracking, when you come close to these needs zones you will find claw marks or dropping and when we investigate that we can find the species, how many of them are there and how old the dropping is, so if the droppings are fresh you follow them. Until you get close enough.
Once you are close enough, you can hear (most often than not) mating calls or warning calls from animals. You can also use a caller to attract a specific animal like the deer caller will call any deer within 150 meters in range or so. While you can wait in the bushes (for maximum camouflage, there is an indicator for that as well as for how much sound you are currently making). If you run then the animal will sense it and try to flee the area.
Also, depending on the direction of the wind, they might sense you even before they hear you. You can remedy this by getting around the animal and hoping that it won't sense it or applying some scent eliminators.
In summary, tracks... their dropping and calls help me locate them. For a game this is I believe as close as you can get to actual tracking of animals. What do you think? Tracking is still the hard part but once you level up and unlock powerful weapons and sights and obtain skills like "steady hands" it will be slightly easier.
Hope this answers your query. Thanks for checking this out. I love to talk about this game.
Heck is as close as possible to real life tracking, there are no effective odor eliminating tools in real life, but some tools actually help a bit, but is one heck of a mechanic system to talk about, I would love to play it and compare it to real life hunting and how it works.
I believe there are some sprays you can put on during the hunting session....no? Something like this, is one of the first results in amazon for sprays for hunting (link below). Or these doesn't work?

Never hunted in real life nor planning to hunt. I can't kill a mosquito let alone a moose or bear. lol
Most of these do not really work like people think it does, basically you are spraying "dirt smell" over yourself, and any wise animal will spot someone smelling like dirt in the middle of a place that does not smell like dirt, imagine like camouflaging by dressing red in a blue floor, it ain't camo, it is nonsense. Sometimes it works with some animals, mostly the young members of a species, who might get curious of that smell, and that is why people get game on those hunts, but if you meet a veteran animal, they gonna hunt you, not the other way around... You get better results just by taking local plans and crush one or two leaves on your body from time to time, common plants that herbivores eat on the area, or just let your clothes be exposed to the place climate for a while, it is best for camo.
I suspected something like that... even in the game they work but are not that effective. How many hunts have you been on? Sounds fascinating.
Not many, like 40-50, with actually hunting like 5-7 times, My father was the hunter, he took us in too many empty hands hunts, it is hard to hunt certain animals, specially when one of our scores was a bloody venezolain puma, smaller and way more aggressive that I would like to admit.

Aaah the lake is so calming but wait, this game is all about hunting. Ain't the time to be relaxing. LOL
Congrats in completing the side missions!
hehe, yup all hunting 🏹
But it is so well made that you get into that forest. The ambient noises along with animal calls and stunning graphics. This is pure joy for a nature lover like me. And while I hunt, I get to know more about these animals and their behaviours. They give you all the info in the codec and that's so cool! Just as cool as you Witty! 😉
Actually, that's really incredible because you would also learn while playing. I guess if I'm curious about an animal, I should just ask you directly prav, you're the guru now. 😂
