I drag what feels like my old squeaky bones out of bed long before the first rays of the sun reach the top of Serra de Estrela to the west. it is yet another frosty morning and with my eyes still half closed, I start a fire.
I realize today is the first day of the new year and feeling much better than the previous day, I remember there is still this little project I wanted to get done.
This is how I ended 2024: https://ecency.com/hive-114308/@bigorna1/a-day-for-introspection-observation
So with the large rock still in the wheelbarrow, as soon as the morning warms a bit, I set to work.
The hardest part is wheeling the rock to where I want it by the "twin" bamboos.
side note: I do not normally plant bamboo this way. the lower bamboo at the back was there first (Bambusa Oldhamii) and after the first winter, it seemed dead. giving up on it, I planted the one in the forefront instead (Phyllostachys Edulis), only to have it spring back to life as soon as the winter was over. they live together happily ever since.
rough measuring of the base of the rock, and carefully digging a square hole to accommodate it is fairly straight forward.
Next, lifting the rock carefully and lowering it into place while trying to keep the hole intact in the process. and my back..
the mossy side of the rock was positioned toward the North, toward the bamboos so as to allow the moss to continue thriving as this is the side that receives the least amount of direct sunlight. (there is magic in the details !)
Lastly, being happy with the result, it takes some filling of the gap around the rock base with some loose soil and compacting it using some wood and hammering.
I feel happy with this new feature and having done it on this new years day and try to visualize how this will all look when the bamboos get way taller and bigger (both these bamboo varieties are giant species).
p.s. Our new rock feature is pure local Granite which is considered to be paramagnetic, which ties it in to our #Electroculture background. this new feature will supposedly enhance the growth of the two bamboos by harnessing ambient energy and channeling it down into the soil and their roots.
Wishing us all a peaceful new year ❤️
