Making NEW Raised Garden Beds

BUILDING a NEW Raised Garden Bed
"I NEED MORE!" said EVERY GARDENER EVERYWHERE! Last year, my garlic and onions were grown in Fabric Grow Bags and a small in ground bed. This year, I am tripling the in ground bed area for growing garlic and onions.

I originally started using the fabric grow bags, because, at the time, I was planning on moving, and wasn't sure if it would happen, or when. If I moved mid way thru a growing season, I wanted to take my garden with me. Once I started, it was easier to just keep using the grow bags.

NOW, I am looking at total garden output over the growing season. My goal is to maximize the harvests on the energy and time I put into growing.

Take a look at how I built this raised bed for growing my food for family and friends.

Onion Harvest

As I mentioned above, I am more than tripling the area I am going to plant in for Onions and garlic. I am hoping for enough onion and garlic harvest to make it an entire year. WITHOUT buying more onion or garlic during the non growing season, from grocery stores.

My Gardens are in New England, zone 7a and 7b

Most of you know, I prefer to grow my own food, locally. It's healthier for my family, and for the planet. I know what goes into my foods, and what chemicals are NOT in my food. Also, It cuts down on carbon emissions, less trucking, planes, trains, and boats, to get fresh foods to my table.

And that makes me smile... better for the planet, better for my own family.

One of the things I haven’t really tried growing yet is onions. I’ve tried garlic before, but I haven’t done it again because it takes a long time to harvest. =)

i plant the garlic in oct. and the seeds for onion in february. Come MAY, I transplant them outside. Harvest Onion mid summer (july)!

It seems like you're very experienced with planting onions and garlic. The climate in your area must be ideal for it! =)

Definitely ideal for Hardneck Garlic. There's a type of garlic called Softneck, that grows in warmer climates and it's the most common one, people think of when shopping.

There is a variety of onion that you can pick, to grow in just about each climate and area of earth. You just to have know where you are, and pick the right kind. ... well, except for Antarctica. That one is tough to grow in!!!

Thanks for the tip! =)

Tucker looks exhausted lol you must be working him like a dog 😆 nice looking raised bed. I built several a few years back when we moved in to our current place. We are expanding our garden too but I think we will use the new space to try planting a few things in the soil. I'm in the process of moving the fence out.

Can't wait to see the expansion. When does the snow hit?
BTW, was at a wedding 20 minutes south of Burlington, last weekend.

Got first freeze last night so its coming. I'm about an hour south of Burlington. Past Middlebury.

Go north on Rt 7, and we were at Basin Harbor Resort (west of Vergennes)!

I stayed there a weekend last summer. Had sushi lol nice place.

Muy bonita cosecha @bluefinstudios espero sigas creciendo el vivero !!! 😊👏 mira mi último post si desea para que observe una colección de cactaceas que visite en cuba 🇨🇺 le gustará bendiciones amigo ! Y a @gardenhive

Excellent harvesting work, I hope it continues to grow strong and healthy, someday I will start to make my own crops.

Love this! Gardening is both hard and satisfying!

bed, even though it's just like a bigger place than a pot. More plants can be planted. Interesting!

Love to have lots of onions and garlic too! Very nice day for gardening.

Yay for more room for these precious crops. I use garlic in so many dishes and so this year I planted some. I am so excited! I would also like to make a garlic braid, have you heard of those. A super way to keep the garlic in your kitchen.

yeah... Greek, here, so, I learned from my Yia Yia and Papou. Been cookiing w/ garlic forever. I even put it on my Froot Loops. Not reallyy... or, do I??? LOL!

I am raised bed envy right now! I wish I had a larger one just for the onions and garlic. I have to find places between other plants to grow them both. Limited space can surely cramp a gardener's desires. lol

Yeah. We are (ooops) losing a bit more grass, to more fabric grow bags, each season.

I am very happy that the garden is growing, I am very important to you❤️
