Summer turns to Fall <<garden journal>>

I will miss the endless days of sunshine and flowers. The wheel of the year, however, turns whether I am ready to or not. So now I find myself wearing a vest and a jacket, a wool beanie and rainboots out to garden.

There are certain benefits to fall. I missed cozy evenings by the fire and the garden is truly prosperous with the end-of-summer-rains. One crop that has flourished in particular are the radish and mustard greens.

Here I have a bowl of radish greens that I will steam and add to a bowl of quinoa and baby tomatoes. Though the roots can be eaten raw I don't recommend trying radish greens without cooking them at least a bit first. Like other brassica plants (cabbage, broccoli) they can be hard to digest without being processed in some way.

While summer brought super hot weather and scorching winds, the days surrounding the fall equinox came with days of rain. I wanted to make the most of the extra humidity and have planted around of mustard greens. These little sprouts could grow much more before harvesting but, I was in a pinch and cut these extra baby greens for pizza toppings.

And then, the clouds roll in and the rain begins. It has been raining for days & days, more than a week with only short breaks in between. So I take refuge in my house and trust that nature is taking care of the garden for me.

Your garden looking so good right bow, I bet the rain help as well to it. Although it can also destroy the plants, I hope the rain would be lighter so that those pretty greens won't end up destroyed or something ✨

yes it is true! the rain can be so intense that a lot of plants are destroyed. I am trying to put shade cloth over the more sensitive plants so that they can get a bit of rain without too much. thank you for your comment!

We are just starting spring here, while you're entering the fall season—amazing how different it is in different places. I bet you're in a rush to grab those greens to preserve for the winter. Soon, I’ll be busy a too picking the new sprouts. 😊💚

it is amazing! and while winter and summer are opposites spring and fall have a lot in common, both are the season of greens!

I haven't seen your post for a while. I'm not sure while you were muted on my side, LOL.
