It's been a while, guys!
It's been really hard to find time to post lately, we are extremely busy with a few things that hopefully I can talk about soon, but you know how it is, you don't wanna jinx it by putting it out there!
This year, we decided to focus a lot on growing fruits, we are going to have a good plumbs, grapes, and blueberry harvest, for now we're drying everything and it doesn't make it to the dry stock for long as it's being eaten so fast. 🤣
On the potato side, we just planted one lane, I also learned how to drive a tractor, and it wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. As you are probably aware, the weather has been really weird lately, lots of storms, lots of rain, and some plants have been really acting up!
We picked a breed of potato called "Mona Lisa". There are also a few spots that grew potato plants because we forgot some potatoes last year. and we left them.
We got our hand on some manure from the neighbour, it's also his tractor. Thanks!
We've been giving away tons of blueberries, they're awesome when eaten fresh , but with that weather & fruit flies, rest assured that they won't last very long, speaking of which, I am about to go harvest some more, see ya in a minute...
And...We're back! Filled up 2 bowls!
The Magic of Passion Flowers
I could have probably done a post just to talk about passion flower, we discovered it when we moved in our farm in 2020, it's an incredible flower, really beautiful, often referred as Maypop, has a really heavy spiritual meaning.
You can dry and smoke the flowers, put them in a tea, it has calming effects, it's a flower that is beautiful to stare at, incredible Fibonacci ratio and Christian undertone:
The passionflower supposedly points to the Christian crucifixion story (also called the Passion). The bloom’s 10 petal-like parts represent Jesus’ disciples (excluding deniers Peter and Judas), the five stamens signify Jesus’ wounds, the knob-like stigmas suggest the nails, and the fringed ring resembles the crown of thorns.
If you already smoke the herb, the effects are pretty similar to THC/CBD. If you're having insomnia, a tea of the dry flowers will be the best way to put you to sleep.
Just looking at the flowers daily, closing after a hot day, and reopening the next morning, is just a beautiful thing to witness. Now the flower is growing around the house, and we might just let it "rewild" our home. I just love it, and can't help but think that there must be a protective aspect to it, on an energy level.
Gandalf
This incredible moth visited us, and stayed in the house for a while. It laid eggs in some places, and then I accidentally stepped on it, I am sorry little buddy, you were really pretty.
Firefly
I didn't step on the firefly. It's the second time of my life I see one, lately we've been having so many "visitors", either birds, strange animals, hares approaching me and not being scared, also it's amazing how much all the trees & plants have grown this year, just surrounding us with a wall of vegetation, all around the farm. Even the fern started creating a protective hedge on the edge of our land, and another dominant specie of hedge called "Privet", has been growing on its own around the house.
I got a lemon tree to celebrate my mom's visit, I love it very much. We probably leave it in a big pot for now.
On the left side, it's potatoes, just one lane, and next to it you got butternuts, and a few tomatoes.
That's it for today, thanks for reading, and sorry for not being here for a while, I completely cut off social media after releasing my last music video, I think I needed a break!
Just a quick game, can someone give me the name of that last fruit?
Nice to see you are back! I'm going to try potatoes as well once summer is here
Oh nice!!! Potatoes are always a safe bet ^^
A while? More like forever. But you have been busy. Driving a tractor is a feit. And simplifies life, doesn't it. Just when I thought I knew pretty much everything there is to know about herbs, I see you dehydrating passionfruit flowers....hmmmm....something else to do
The last fruit - quince?
I can't believe you stepped on Gandalf. 😢
But I'm happy you drove a tractor, that's gotta make life easier! Nice to see a post from you, it made my day this morning. x
Yeps! Quince!!! Never tasted it before, and it's the first year it's growing. Apparently not super loved around the world.
Yeah I felt bad for this poor moth!
I am glad I made your day, I really miss reading everyone's post and hang out around here!
Well it's not the same here without you!
Quince just takes a lot of prep is all. Nice pickled for a cheese platter or of course the Spanish membrillo. Xx
Ciao again @edprivat ! Great post! Thank you for the reminder to harvest passion blooms.... Is the final fruit a quince of some type? 😍
Oh you know them too? I thought I was being a smart ass haha.
And yes!!! Well done for finding out the fruit, it's a quince! I have no idea what to do with it!
Make jam or chutney with them xxx
Aye, @edprivat - as @trucklife-family says: a quince is like an apple essentially, but more savoury. So far as I know! There was a lovely film which I saw way back when I was at art school, about a man painting a quince tree... https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105438/
OOOh Chutney yummy!
That's what I was thinking too xxx
Wow looking good.
Jealous of the fresh blueberries.
We've had rain as well, quite a bit and even last night and today, which us amazing.
Very impressed with the land.
Sending mountains of love to you and your beautiful family xxxxx
I'll send you some crushed blueberries in an envelope 😄
That rain is nice, isn't it? I am sure it filled up the nearby lakes... Big hug to your beautiful family too! Let's catchup on Telegram!
Yes let's catch up xxxx
Oh my gosh!!! You've been busy!
It seems we often take breaks at the same time. lol! I've just returned to Hive and SM in general after finishing a big project. Of all the platforms, I enjoy Hive the most, and it's so wonderful to keep coming back to see what friends like you are up to.
I'm immensely impressed with your farm and all the goodness you've been working on there. I wish I could come walk the land with you, meet your family, nibble some blueberries, and admire the passionflowers. What a wonderful post! 💖
Hey there! Yees! Busy! Indeed, I love coming back and checking what's happening in our universe ^^.
You're very welcome to join us if you pass by France, with your family! There will always be something to nibble on, with all these fruits!
This is impressive, and what you're doing is truly amazing 👏
Thank you!
Is it a kumquat?
Smoking passion flower, eh? that's interesting. Never heard of that.
Also
The famous Kumquat!!! The one that wins entire Scrabble games! Nah it ain't, but close! Someone else found it already anyway!
I said making a tea with it bro, tss tss 😄
Hahaha thanks for even searching for gif and all, pressing copy and paste, lots of work man...
Wow, are you being sassy? I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not Lol 😂
Acts like I didn't read the post but...
You talked about smoking it as much as making a tea and drinking it lol 😆
I just thought you'd like the LOTR reference. No people that I work with have watched the movie and everyday I'm like "this is distressing that no one gets my references"
I tried to use a Wormtongue reference at work and no one had a clue what i was talking about.
It was a sad day
Nonono! THe opposite! For someone that hasn't been on hive for a while, searching a gif to convey an idea seems like way too much work haha.
I did mention it twice hahaha... Very suspect...
I am curious, what was the wormtongue reference? Because he said some creepy shit in HP and I am trying to figure out how you managed to slide this in a casual work convo.
Haha I see.
Yeah it was a very strange and sad situation, hard to explain, but basically there was a very manipulative family member of a person who has delusional ideas and has transfered them to their parent. So I was like, "I feel like they are keeping them locked up in the dark and whispering in their ear like Wormtongue..."
The reference did not land at all as you can imagine 🤣
Leaky: "[...] Wormtongue..."
(cricket sound)
I would have totally gotten the reference!
Yeah. The new generation doesn't know what it's missing
Wow, it's nice to read that you have an amazing place where you can have all of these plants and vegetables. I am wondering what the blue berries taste like! :) I hope I can have some too in my garden.
Thank you!!! The blueberries taste a bit acidic, a bit sweet, and it feels healthy to the body, great source of vitamins, minerals, etc...
