I know this feeling, so many things I really like, would not thrive here, or not survive altogether.

Oh, there are so many things you can grow in your climate I can not even dream about. I dream anyway ; )
Yes there are lots of fruits here too, so many kinds but sometimes we can't stop ourselves wishing to have fruits the same as what grows to other country.
