Well...you get it.
Recently, I've been entrusted both a garden and an old rusty scythe among other things...tons of other things but never mind...
The time has come to test the latter. Never been taught how to wield a scythe but I had to discover some techniques on my own.
The whetting stone has been found lying around so I did manage to sharpen the blade a bit. I don't know if it shows from under the rusty layer but the difference is there. Is it enough, though? I cannot tell. I feel not, judging by what happens when I encounter soft grass that would bend under the pressure of the blade rather than be cut down.
My problem, at present, is with the unbending weeds, though. So, it should all be fine and dandy. The jungle in our yard must give some ground.
Here we go...
Not only the blade is rusty but the handle is kind of old and uncomfortable. Which gave an amateur like me some blisters. Then again, I would have had blisters even with a new and comfortable handle.
That below would be a Before Shot.
And that below would be an After Shot.
Speaking of shots, my archery range should be set up there somewhere someday.
Big win of the day - I discovered the corn stalks which were hiding in the grass.
That all happened yesterday. Within an hour or so of work. I've decided to spend about an hour or two...or three...or more...but most often an hour or two...whenever I go there.
Since I had forgotten my phone there, I went back today and I spend almost another hour, clearing another area and today...
...Today I found the wheelbarrow.
Who knows what tomorrow rings?
Peace!
Manol
It looks like you figured out how to use the scythe pretty well. A sharp blade works well for any of the stiffer grass or weeds, but even when it's really sharp, it's still harder to cut soft grass. You could clean up the handle a bit with some sandpaper and it would be more comfortable to use.
The wheelbarrow that you found should be pretty useful around the garden.
Oh, don't I know about the wheelbarrow ;) I also bought a pitchfork to go with it.
Thanks for leaving a comment! Take care!
