It took only 17 years - July Hive Garden Journal

And has got quite a story

This is the first fruit of this tree and it took 17 years for that, since it was planted in 2006. There is quite a story on it. In my place, during Savitri Brata, the in-laws bring everything for the celebration. I wrote a post on the occasion some times back. It includes all kinds of fruits, apart from everything else - kind of a big gift for their daughter at her husband's house. So much so that, some people send a full truck load of fruits and other gifts during early few years at least. So the seed of this jackfruit originates to that time - the lady's father was allocated a big govt quarter having many trees and he gifted a jackfruit along with everything else. It was one of a kind - the crunchy and most delicious type that tastes like a real fruit (unlike others which are soft). So my mother decided to put a seed and then plant it. And you can see the result after 17 years.

So now we have got three varieties on our backyards and I have decided to eat them as much as available - they are the natural healers of any stomach problems.

This big one was however gifted to our neighbor here - the relationship is being strengthened - he also likes it very much.

Coming back to my garden, I have given one more try to restore it.

It was a lot of work to clean up all the old plants, and then make the pots ready and plant new ones. But finally I was able to complete it.

Given that they are now at everyone's reach, its more challenging to prevent people to take the flowers. In fact, there have been already few instances where I have heated arguments with few ladies. One of them went beyond my imagination - she deliberately took a lot of curry leaves every couple of days and the problem started when I told her to get it from market, if she needs that much. Or if she wants it fresh, then plant her own tree. I don't know what one would do with so much (one stem would suffice for couple of days at least), but that argument escalated so much so that, the management had to intervene. Initially she lied saying she takes only couple of stems, but then I said, I have the CCTV footage, and image of the plant from every few days. I even count the stems😜 and can tell how much she is taking. Then she was so scared that she started escalating to the management justifying that it is in a public area so she can do anything. Imagine the situation - there are some people (especially ladies) who are so focused on their individual needs that they forget the basic conscience. I was thinking to tell her that I would take away everything she has in the corridor😁 to teach her a lesson. After all that also is a public space in a society. But then the president (an elderly person) advised me to just leave it, and don't give her any importance. She already has a screwed up brain - better to stay away.

Do you notice small black fruits in this curry leaves plant ? They are seeds and burst automatically - that is the reason you see many small curry leaves plant near one big plant.

Being that the first jackfruit took 17 years to show up must have made it so special after all of that time. I guess that since the tree has finally produced fruit it will do the same every year, hopefully.

Happy to hear that you are giving your garden another try.
In our area, we have problems with all types of pests wreaking havoc on our garden, but at least they are not humans. I'm not sure what type of repellant one can use to prevent thievery, maybe an electric fence. 😁

Great advice from your landlord to just let the issue die down, you never know extreme behavior some people are capable of.

Good luck with this year's garden, my friend.

I'm not sure what type of repellant one can use to prevent thievery, maybe an electric fence. 😁

They will come with an instrument to cut that even :) You can never prevent human greed.

Greed is the way of the world and that's a real shame.

I can't believe how much people steal from you and that lady arguing so much about it!! I love my curry tree and would willingly give people some but would be so upset if they stole so much. It's good to see you with your hands in the soil.

would willingly give people some but would be so upset if they stole so much

Exactly.

That is a long wait! I'm sure it was worth it. I have never tasted jackfruit but it looks wonderful

It looks like it was worth the wait for that harvest. I've never tasted that fruit, and it's the first time I've seen one. Now I'm curious to try it.
I hope that next year the tree will give you a good harvest again. Cheers

I hope that next year the tree will give you a good harvest again.

No doubt on that, once started, it will be more and more.

Congratulations on your big harvest. The fruit came out really large I see.

And about your dispute with that lady, she's acted really unreasonable there. If she needed more, she should have just asked knowing fully well it's not a public property. She would have just admitted to it rather than justifying her actions.

big harvest

takes big time as well, but once it starts, it goes on.

That's true.

I am really surprised with the years that took this tree to produce only one fruit but it is awesome since it produced a bigger one.

this tree to produce only one fruit

It does produce many, hopefully we will get many next year.

@tipu curate

Awesome job!

These are excellent photographs and you are gifted with many talents.

I admire a person who will take a stand against vile behaviors such as what you have described.

The true nature of bad people is being revealed in multitudes during these times, and they will be held accountable.

You plants exemplify the amazing man that you are.

Thank you for sharing your plants and story with us.

Thank you so much.

You have a really nice garden with such beautiful and fresh plant.

This work is not easy as we see you are taking very good care of your garden and planting new plants because every time I work in this way all the time inside my garden. I water things then then they are grouped well where they are and they have to be taken care of daily, whatever gets spoiled has to be put to the side or else all the other leaves that are there get spoiled too.

Quite an amazing story for such tree producing only one fruit in seventeen years. However it looks so big and fresh to eat and thanks for sharing it with the amazing photos of your garden as well.

It is looking very tasty. I have never seen this type of fruit before. I was surprised that your mother has planted this.

The tree really has so much patient and commitment on this to produce the fruit

waiting so many years to enjoy this great fruit was well worth it. Continue working to recover your plants and always be aware so that they cannot be damaged

You spend good time with garden and this must be making you happy. Jack fruit is big size..

How are you dear friend @sanjeevm good day
What a great story there is behind this delicious fruit, I appreciate that you have told us
It's good to know that you resumed work in your garden, I have no doubt that it will soon be filled with beautiful flowers
have a beautiful day

You seem to be having a great time in the garden. Only one yield in 17 years is a bit sad. Just a jackass again. The jackfruit quails seem to be very tasty and sweet.

We have a few jackfruit trees in our house and all the trees have produced quite well. The joy of working in the garden during leisure time is different.

After long time i reply you my dear friend. I miss your last some blog post. I am very happy to see your gardening work you regularly doing and you care your garden. And I am also like the jackfruit. My side this fruit Name I FANAS. This is very famous in this season. And coincident I buy jackfruit today in my local market. I will cut tomorrow this and enjoying to eat this.

First fruit after 17 years, that's very long time bro.

Long starting time :)

Wow .. 17 years for a Jackfruit?

Does it take that much time?

You are really a hard worker and nature lover and it is clearly depicted through these images.

That thing is massive! Looks delicious though, enjoy the yummy harvest!

😊🌈😋 yum! I never tried that, but it looks so good!

dang, 17 yrs? that's some time investment. more than bitcoin!! :P

more than bitcoin!

But then this has only up side, unlike bitcoin :) You will get more and more.

so true! 😉👍👍

OH man 17 years is a long time and congrats hard work always pays off, it may take some time, but in the end the reward is fruitfully.

That lady was cheeky taking your curry leaves!!!

Taking the advantage of being ladies :)

hehe well why not I guess!

I can't believe it took 17 years to grow that jackfruit. It does look delicious though. Very cool that you are giving gardening another try, nothing more gratifying than growing your own, at least in my book.

Thanks for sharing, happy gardening.

I don't buy jackfruit, but friends are giving me. I like it a lot.

Wow, I have never seen or eaten such a fruit, what does it look like? What does it taste like?

What does it taste like?

Very sweet and fibrous - a healer for stomach.

Your patience paid off. 17 years is quite long.

It takes that much to start the engine :) Some places, it would come fast, where the land is more futile.

That's amazing that you were able to grow a jackfruit tree from seed! It's so special that it was a gift from your in-laws, and it's wonderful that you were able to enjoy the fruit after 17 years.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some trouble with people taking your plants. It's frustrating when people don't respect other people's property, especially when it's something that you've put so much time and effort into. I'm glad that the management was able to help you, and I hope that the situation doesn't escalate any further.

I didn't know that curry leaves plants produce seeds! That's really interesting. I'll have to keep an eye out for them the next time I see a curry leaves plant.

It's always interesting to hear about people's gardening experiences

It seems to me that you have a lot of passion and dedication for plants and flowers. I really enjoyed seeing the photos of your garden, it looks very beautiful and colorful.

17 years? That's quite so long. One will have to be extremely patient just like you did to get it.
Nice to see the jackfruit finally yeald something.

I love your garden. You've got lots of plants there. What's that powder you are pouring into the sand for?

That's a organic mix added to soil. The jackfruit tree takes long time to start, but once it starts, it goes on nicely giving many every year.

Oh okay, that's nice to know.
