Hello Hive Garden friends,
It is time for a garden update. In Arizona, while it is possible to grow all year round, there are two very distinct gardening seasons, spring and fall.
Here is a look at my Spring 2022 Round Garden.
Planning
I have learned that a good garden takes some planning. Sometimes I research which plants go well next to others. Since this is such a small garden I concentrated more on the distance they would have in the garden space.
My favorite vegetables to plant are leafy greens and I have been collecting my own bok choy seeds since 2019. This year I am planting seeds from a broccoli I planted in 2020. There are lots of veggies and a row of zinnias through the middle of the barrel.

Planting
I am very excited about the beautiful wood on this cut whiskey barrel that is serving for my raised bed garden. I planted on January 16, 2022.
Week 1
On January 22, 2022 (just about a week later) the first sprout appeared. If I remember right it is a zinnia.
Here is a different angle
Week 2
Yay there are many things sprouting now!

Nursery
You will notice that there are other plants around the vegetable garden. I really enjoy taking the baby plants and making new plants. My big beautiful agave has lots of "babies" and so I am starting to have quite the agave nursery.
Here is mommy
I got my macro out and did a little photo shoot. Agave and especially his plant are so beautiful.

5 of the plants below are her off shoots
Here is another gorgeous agave called Agave Blue Glow. Which is kinda interesting since it is not blue, in fact it has great red and yellow colors.
Ok I was going to stop. First, I want to show you some close ups of the lavender. While I was at Home Depot buying the barrel and soil I saw this beautiful plant and it came home with me!

Saraaaa, what a lovely tour!
The video was amazing! And you have a voice for radio!!! So sweet when you were trying to remember what is what, it happens to me all the time, haha! I always concentrate not to forget and I always forget, but it's part of the adventure! Of course, you are well organised and you have your notes! You don't want to see my notes :)
Good luck with your project! Looking forward to seeing them grow healthy and happy!
The agave is gorgeous! I hope she is revealing her secrets to you ;)
Thanks so much. So glad you liked the video! That is an interesting idea. I will have to pay more attention to her.
What a lovely garden and great macros but what really stole the show is your video :)
I still have some of your bok choy seeds. So far I didn't had any luck with them but I am planning to try again and hopefully they'll sprout this time!
Happy gardening season!
Aww thanks Stefanos. I was wondering how many people would watch it. It sure brings the whole back area to life.
I hope the bok choy will grow for you. It is my favorite. It is good in salads and soups and smoothies, so versatile. I wonder how long the seeds last. Maybe I will have to send you some from this garden when it goes to seed.
I'll give them one more chance and I'll let you know. Thanks!
That agave is out of the world. A true beauty. Good luck with your garden.
Thanks so much. I should write the story and show pictures of the agave. It is a fun story.
I encourage it!
How lovely to not only see your garden but hear your voice and the excitement you are feeling! I love how you planned it and the little sketches in a notebook. How fantastic are agave - they are so architectural in design aren't they - and so abundant! I love, love, love the whiskey barrel!!!! Won't be long before that chard is HUGE - I think it's a really good decorative plant let alone a good vegetable. Spanokopita comes to mind - my favourite! Thanks for sharing - a gorgeous tour!!!!
Thanks so much @riverflows I am so glad you enjoyed the video and the agave. Yes, architectural and gorgeous! I will have to make some Spanokopita. Do you have a favorite recipe?
I make by feel so I'm not one to ask! I wonder if @traisto has a good one? I tend to do mine with chard, beetroot tops and any garden greens that suit, even fennel tops, onion - I steam them, squeeze dry and add to ricotta cheese, add a couple of eggs and some spring onions and garlic and whack it between filo pastry! But there's lots of authentic Greek recipes online you could try. Now I have a craving!!!!
Yes, @traisto I would love to hear what you think. There are so many recipes online. I like when it is something I know that others use and like!
When I was advised to stop eating gluten, spanakopita was the first thing I knew I would miss... Today was a full day in the factory packaging olive oil, I'll be back soon with the recipe of my grandmother!Of course I have @riverflows, haha! @sjarvie5, this is my favorite pie as long as I remember myself!
Oh that is so wonderful. Thank you! I am excited. I saw Stefanos factory post. He knows how to make everything look great.
A little jealous, I have such a brown thumb! LOL
That is totally what I thought when I only had houseplants in pots. Gardens are different, it is harder to over water them.
With plants, every home is more beautiful. I love Agave too!!🌱 Very nice "calling the spring" post;):D
Hi Tammy. I am so glad to hear you love agave too. They are such interesting and incredibly beautiful plants.
The Whiskey barrel pot is really cool. Cool re-use for that.
I like plants like the agave that produce babies. It's awesome being able to propagate new plants from an existing one.
Lavender is my favorite plant of the ones you have. I love the smell of Lavender.
Hi @leaky20 I thought it was so great to get great wood and be able to reuse the barrel. Prorogating. That is the technical word for it having babies. Yes, I like plants that prorogate and I can replant and have more and or give them away so other can enjoy it too.
Love this barrel, I hope I can find one just like this one. Have a nice day ahead.
Thanks I hope you can find one like it too. It is so great for a little garden.
You're welcome (^_^)
your lavender plant is very beautiful, I have one, but it is a little different, the climate here in Venezuela is very tropical
Hi @taniagonzalez that is great that you have lavender too. It is really amazing how different the same plant can be, lavender, sage, there are so many types of agave too.
This is GREAT!
I hope you don't mind, I added this into our HiveGarden Community/DreemPort Challenge this month!
Your container Garden looks amazing so far. I wish my growing season was as long as Arizona's. We are looking at 18 inches of snow on the ground right now, with another 6 to 8 inches coming this next 30 hours or so.
I start seeds in about 10 days. Indoors. My poor garden, now:
Thanks. Yes, it is a very long growing season and I am enjoying it.
My average last frost date is Apr 27-May 1st. so, yeah.... not quite ready to go outside. that's why I grow indoors, too, overwinter.
Oh, looks neat and tiny. It’s a lot better than mine. Haha ❤️💕❤️❤️💕💕❤️
Thanks so much @itsostylish it is fun so far.
Congratulations @sjarvie5 . I loved your garden and how well cared for your plants are. Excellent idea to grow and have our own vegetable garden.
