RE: Starting My 2024 Potato

in HiveGarden6 months ago

I am wanting to start my potato growing. Here where I live potatoes grow so easily due to our volcanic soil so luckily we don’t really have to do much to them.

I work next door to a tyre retailer and they have heaps of old tyres out back that they’ve said we can grab if we want them.

I plan to use tyres to grow my potatoes.

Here’s how I plan to do it:

  • cut a split in the tyre with a reciprocating saw
  • place tyre on ground and plant potato as you normally would, building up the dirt mound as they grow
  • when one tyre is full add another one
  • repeat for growing season

The reason for the split is that it makes it easier to remove the layers.

This method has worked well for our family when we were kids and I’m picking it will still work well today.

The advantage is greater yield without needing a heap of space.
