September 19th ➡️ September 26th, 2022There are a lot of bizarre foods around the world, and what might seem like a normal food to you might be a weird food to another person. When I explain how cheese is made to my Cambodian friends, they are always shocked and disgusted, but it's a perfectly normal food in many parts of the world. Even here in SE Asia, tempeh is perfectly normal in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, but here in Cambodia it would be considered a very bizarre food, especially considering how it is produced.
Durian is a food normal all over SE Asia, but strange in other countries, and of course there are local versions too. Perhaps your area has a strange fruit/vegetable not found elsewhere, or even a local dish that might be considered strange to some people. In some parts of the USA, people eat pickled eggs, and I always thought this was very strange as a kid, and of course the Philippines has balut.
Let's see your strange and bizarre foods my fellow ASEAN Hivers. I recently tried cardamom shoots for the first time, and I must say it was like eating Tiger Balm, not a joy. Even though I cook with cardamom seeds very often, I didn't know the plant itself was also edible, but after trying it, I not question it's edibility 😉😁.

First of all . Wow.. this is an amazing section.. hahahha.. yea.. the fermented Tempe is a really bizare food.. especially if the process is seen. Cambodians don't eat cheese? Congrats to @coloringiship @tegoshei and @abizahid. Pickled eggs. Wow.. first time I've heard that.. the most bizzare here is the sushi made of a type of edible worm. Hahahha.. a bowl of soup made of inerts. I literally have a bit of difficulty smelling it. But my wife loves it.
Cheese is now popular in Cambodia because of pizza and cheeseburgers, but still Cambodians don't buy it and keep it in the home, but these western foods are common in some restaurants. Mostly people here don't know how cheese is made, and even when I learned as a kid, I thought it to be really strange.
Worm sushi, now that is a unique food, haha.
Hhahaha.. wow.. I guess.. it's hard to resist Western food... I guess.. the worm sushi can be filled with cheese. This is an edible type of worm found in Borneo that can be eaten raw but I've never tried one. I just don't want the juice to burst in my mouth.. =) hahaha.. Wow.. Imagine a Westernized Cambodia.. =) That's amazing.
Sounds similar to grubs, they are eaten in the countryside of Cambodia. The biggest problem for western food in Cambodia is that 90% of SE Asians are lactose intolerant, and I guess perhaps 95% or higher in Cambodia.
I try to warn Cambodians about consuming dairy, but they won't take my advice because I'm vegan, and they think first it's dairy, then I'll tell them to stop eating meat, etc. A non-vegetarian would be better at convincing Cambodians, haha.

I can name some bizarre food off the top of my head, but I don't have pictures... since I don't normally eat them. waaaa~ T_T
Same for me, because I live in such an isolated place and I'm vegan, most of the bizarre edibles are in the towns. We tried cardamom shoots recently, I wish I had taken more pics, but I'll never eat them again, I would describe them as a bit like bamboo shoots, but the flavor of Tiger Balm, not pleasant.
I think balut is probably the most famous weird food from your country, here the Cambodians like fertilized duck eggs, but not as developed as balut.

I am sure some of the food we have here is strange is not just to you, but to me to as the local.
There is a soup in Thailand and parts of Cambodian made from the poop of a newborn cow, never seen it, but I know many people that say it's a real thing, and that's about the most bizarre food I've heard of in this part of the world.

A lot of seemingly normal foods here in SE Asia would be considered bizarre in other parts of the world, and there are plenty of foods within in SE Asia that are considered strange by people from here too.
The custom footer and/or community title/badges are according to delegation. At 50 HP, you are a Bronze VIP, 100HP+ a Silver, 500HP+ a Gold, 1,000HP+ a Platinum, and 10,000HP+ a Diamond VIP. I can offer bigger upvotes to those who delegate greater amounts, of course as long as certain standards of quality are maintained, but you have no problem with that because you're a talented Hiver already.
I noticed your 25 HP delegation, I designated you as a Member, and I do that for some delegators under 50 HP that maintain genuine engagement and quality content. Durian is strange, and many people even here in SE Asia don't like it. Usually it's the smell that bothers people, but I enjoy the smell of durian, I just don't like the taste of it.
