When I was still living there it seemed like every other day a huge "yaba" bust was happening at the borders and the police / army would all line up to congratulate themselves on a job well done. It has done very little to stop its availability and because I am a cynic it wouldn't surprise me at all if it is the police themselves that are putting these drugs on the street. A little extra "tea money".

Yes I know what you mean and I also suspect you may be right - having lived in Thailand for a while I have trouble believing the police are not involved directly in the drug trade in some form or another at each level.
