RE: The Dark Underbelly of Thailands Meth Problem.

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITY3 years ago

I knew a guy that was a long-time friend of mine and was a really cool dude. Then one day he just disappeared for a while and then one day I spotted him sitting behind some sort of street stall with some other rather tweaked out looking friends. Despite our long history, he treated me with hostility and I could tell by his eyes that he was on meth.

Thankfully he recovered but he tells me that he feels the call of this drug on a regular basis and struggles to stay off of it. He has been very forthcoming about the fact that if he disappears again, that I will know why. As someone who has never really been addicted to anything other than cigarettes, I sympathize with this guy and many other like him.

Thats very sad to hear and I hope your pal finds the strength to win that battle. I think once Meth has its deadly teeth in to your soul it's very hard to shake! Was your friend Thai?

Yes, the friend was Thai. In fact, I don't know a single foreigner that has ever even dabbled in meth here in Thailand. I don't think it is really offered to foreigners but then again, I don't really get involved with drugs.
