Re: internet signal. If we're too far offshore we have no signal at all but most of the islands we are hopping through are close enough to the mainland to pick up minimal service. Once we clear customs and leave Australian waters we won't have service again until we reach Indonesia.

But there is radio communication on board that doesn't need any internet right? I am learning a lot of how life is on board a vessel at sea.
We plan our routes based on how many nautical miles we can do in a day sail so we can anchor up each night. However, once we leave Cairns we will have stretches of sailing right through the night as well. And 6 to 7 nights to Indonesia Whilst in Australia we have radio communication but once we leave to sail to Indonesia we will only be able contact boats within about 30 miles of us.
Thanks for letting me know.. Wow.. the stretches of sailing right through the night is on manual or auto.. I guess, it takes a bit of training and experience to be able to do what you do.
I've never done a night sail but it does concern me. My husband tells me not to stress about it but I'm just a tad scared. We have an auto pilot but when we're using it someone needs to be at the helm watching.
