Whatever your lifestyle; your body is bombarded with toxic waste in various shapes and forms. And on a daily basis. DeTox-ing should be part of every person's basic immune boosting regime. In essence a DeTox is the natural process of cleansing the blood. In other words, a DeTox assists your body to eliminate anything that causes strain or long term harm to our amazing bodies; more particularly strain on the liver. Our liver is an overworked but underestimated organ. It gets as much fan fair as the toilet would in anyone's home. We can't live without it but we certainly don't talk about it, especially in polite company! With a little support your liver can work optimally. My favourite liver support is weed. No, not that type of weed - although it certainly has its place in healing. Milk Thistle and Dandelion are among the most potent weeds that grow on our homestead. We also have a bumper crop of indigenous thistles. My body tells me when it needs a DeTox. If I'm not paying attention my liver kicks it up a notch and causes me severe nausea. Then I listen! Immediately I do a cleanse with Milk Thistle and Dandelion. Within days my liver is doing the happy dance.
But don't think Milk Thistle and Dandelion settle for liver support only! They are excellent for strengthening bones, improving brain health, assisting the digestive system and cleansing the gallbladder. Combining the two makes them a powerful DeTox to be sure. Here in South Africa Bull Thistle and African Thistle grow prolifically in our area and my goats feast on them with relish. These weeds produce nasty thorns which make them a force to be reckoned with. On the whole I prefer making tea or tincture with dried Milk Thistle and Dandelion. But in an effort to teach the BuckarooBabies more about wild flowers we have been foraging and juicing our finds!
DeTox challenge I included our indigenous Thistle as well as some Bitter Aloe! With a resume as long as a piece of string Aloe Ferox is by far one of my favourite healing plants. To bump up the DeTox up a notch I added fresh Bitter Aloe - just look at all that goodness! Be warned though; Aloe Ferox is aptly named Bitter Aloe.Edged on by @theherbalhive's fabulous
Although I am not queasy about extreme health flavours my palate was grateful for a sweet apple to tone done the extreme green and bitter bite. Ginger is wonderful for nausea, which is a sure indication of liver strain. And it adds a lovely zing to fresh green juices.
Because the sap is a strong laxative and the most bitter part of Aloe Ferox, I cut off the thorny green skin and rinse the white flesh. That gets added to the chicken and goats water as an anti-parasitic. The white flesh goes through my juicer along with all the Thistles and Dandelions.
There are undoubtedly certain life skills that every human should understand and apply. Thriving optimally is not limited to sunshine - as important as Vitamin D is! For our body to thrive grounding, rest, regular deworming and an equally regular DeTox is essential. With a balanced diet of fresh and raw, the rest, as the saying goes; is details.
Sometimes I also made green smoothies with spinach, but your recipe looks healthy.
thanks for sharing
Blessing:)
Thank you for the comment @ettydiallova. Green veggie juices are really amazing
This is truly a bomb detox! I never seen this type of Aloe here. Only the long smooth kind. And I mean in the supermarket. It obviously doesn't grow here, lol. I use apple and ginger for smoothies with all types of leafy greens nd herbs, but your juice is all other level!!! 💚🌿💚
It is quite another level Lena. But rather intense which is why I pop in apple. Aloe Ferox is indigenous to South Africa. It has the most magnificent, tall orange flowers in winter. The sunbirds and bees love them. I obviously love them loving the pollen
I have to look it up online! It sounds da magnificent!
I love milk thistle and dandelion! And combining them in a juicer with apple and ginger for tasty detox greatness is beyond genius! YUM!
Dang, if I were the jealous type, I would be all green with envy over that slab of bitter aloe, holy health goo!
It's almost dandelion season here, your beautiful post made me even more excited, this year we are going to brew up a batch of dandelion wine. Of course after enjoying that I might need to detox, gonna bookmark your post for future reference😊.
Hi KAT!!!! Listen, if you knew how hectic that green was without the apple to sweeten it you would probably be green anyway....and gagging out the window. That Aloe Ferox is really bitter.
Dandelion wine sounds amazing. Do you (your husband) only use dandelion or is it a fruit and weed kind of combination? I wonder if the naturally detoxing dandelion wouldn't counter the alcohol effect? 😂
I love anything that's green! You're smoothie sounds super healthy! Thank you on all the great info.
Me too. Green and chocolate! I have a friend who's six year old (he's now a teenager) loves green so much when I made a fruit smoothie he refused to eat it until it was GREEN!
Haha that's cool, a kid that likes green! 😇😅
You are SO lucky you have both dandelion and milk thistle growing on your property! I am very envious. Next you'll be telling me you make goat milk halloumi...
How pretty do your photos look!
I have milk thistle out at the moment - just the powdered stuff from the herbal supplier I use. A few days of that always sets me right, especially if I - cough cough - overdo the wine at my cousin's wedding...
Great post, glad I allowed late entries!
Forget that! You'll love this.....one of the ancient methods of cheese making involved a rendering of....wait for it....are you sittting....STINGING NETTLE!!!! Watch this space
Thank you @plantpoweronhive!!
Wow that sounds great drink. Can I order one? 🤓
Sure! Although collection may be rather expensive 🤣

We have plenty of dandelion and thistle where we live, as well as apples, and we definitely need DeToxing as while we build we fuel ourselves with lots of beer hehe. We have committed ourselves to do some heavy detoxing as soon as we finish building so this recipe will come in very handy, thanks for sharing!
Do you brew your own beer? Artisan beer is something special.
Not yet, we hope to do so once we've properly installed in our new home 😁
So awesome how BuckarooBabies are trained into these life lessons! Amazing job @buckaroobaby! As for the post, just wonderful and I totally loved the recipe and your way of thinking! Glad to learn about your local aloe too!
I'm sure my liver would be really, really grateful for a strong detox. I recently saw dandelion greens in the organic section of our supermarket, not sure about aloe, of course not your variety, definitely no thistle though. Any advice on substitutes? Oh, and I don't have a juicer, will a Vitamix work?
Try making a smoothie. Apparently dandelion greens make a yummy salad. Never tried it. I still battle with the foraging of weeds for food. But I like using them medicinally
