Freestyle LEGO Fun
One of the really fun things lately has been our sons creativity when it comes to LEGO's. We've had a few fun building sessions where he's come up with something unique!
I think I got some personal motivation on this one with something like Star Wars. Seems to be some type of vehicle that's like the flying ones they use on the Ewok planet!
I was trying to make the different components be symmetrical where I could but I had some fun with this for sure! I took components from the Game of Thrones build that we did a while ago, we got a miniature version of the Red Keep. It came with these cool cookies and cream looking bricks! Makes it have some interesting aspects to it.
This is the little man's build! He was going more towards the real Star Wars build with this one, with those two horn things coming off the flyers that they use!
He did a pretty good job, he did this whole thing himself! He has really taken some good time and effort to build all kinds of different things!
We have been doing a build together at least once a week so I'm going to see if I can document what we are building! He's been doing a lot of really cool cars and trucks, with the different pieces we have now we have quite a few different things to make some cool stuff out of it. I'd love to see if we can build something giant together! We have several thousand pieces I'd reckon so we could do something cool lol

Cool build! How old is your son?
Mine will be 4 next month so we are on the verge of starting our Lego journey together (I’ve been waiting for this for 4 years hahahaha)
Happy Lego building!

Sorry I totally seemed to have missed this comment! Apologies!
Our son is a bit older than that, they really come into their element at around 4 though! That's when he started to figure out how to assemble the small bricks. Now he's making all kinds of cool stuff. We made a police station the other day it was awesome! He's into guns right now so he's building all kinds of interesting lego guns lol
I hear you on that! I waited 3 years before we tried and it was okay but he would get frustrated he couldn’t handle the small bricks. For a while it was the big ones which was totally fine lol. Now I can’t keep lego in the house unopened! He’s always scouting around the house to see if we brought in any new lego lol.
We’ve been using lego as a reward for getting his school work done which is great. If he finished a full week of his work then he gets a new lego set. It’s been pretty good motivation for him, although he’s missed a day here and there. I haven’t been a stickler about every single day just yet but he’s doing good so it’s a win for both of us. I get to play lego with him and he continues to learn lol
No worries - it can be hard keeping track of all the notifications - I have a system where I go through mine but even then sometimes I can miss 'em.
Yeah - he's 4 in a few weeks time so Lego here we come - wohoooo!!!
Interesting about it being a reward for doing school work. My son is too young for homework so we have all that to come too. I can imagine me using that one though (at least then I get to benefit too by playing with lego!)
I know @stickupboys are also a big lego fan!

My son is a huge lego fan, for years it was the only toy on his Christmas list, and through thrifty finds and smart shopping adding to the Lego I kept from my childhood I think he probably has enough to never need to buy any more.
I was always a 'follow the instructions and do not deviate from the order of works' builder, but my boy happily refers to himself as an imaginative builder, he likes to invent his own builds, so much so I don't worry about missing pieces from the thrift finds, it all ends up scrambled together in his Lego boxes anyway.
He is always so proud of his inventions, they must not be mixed up or put away for a few days after they are built, and he's moved onto the next folly.
I had no idea there was a Lego community on hive, I'm going to go ahead and check it out.
Happy building!
That’s great that you were able to get some LEGO for your son! They are an awesome tool for them to both play and learn, especially one that isn’t a phone, computer or TV screen! It’s awesome for their creativity, I wonder if it’s a boy thing but your son, my son and I all enjoy doing our own thing with lego haha. I like the sets but freestyle, imaginative building is awesome! He’s built a bunch of really cool things since I posted this, I’ll have to take some photos and make an updated freestyle post!
I agree with you on every level. Lego is awesome!
I think you might be right about it being a male trait to tend towards more imaginative building. @rubido always pokes fun at me (in a kind way) for my instruction following when we do have a new Lego set in the house.
I look forward to seeing what fantastical builds you come up with!
Oh are you @rubido's wife?! That's awesome! I'm glad that you're on here with us :D My wife @ssiena is here as well, though she's got a lot of other things she's doing so she hasn't had a lot of time to keep up with the space.
My wife is also an instruction builder rather than freestyle haha, it's all good though! She's far more creative in other ways than I am so it's just some fun differences!
Free builds are the best! They're definitely enough to inspire some creativity.
A couple years ago I had some random bags of legos from several unrelated sets. I divided them and had my boys build something from each. Was pretty neat!
That's awesome, I think random builds are great. As well because we can't keep a set intact for more than a day or two lol. He's had a crane intact for about 2 weeks, I'm shocked!
I ask him, as a way to keep him busy, to build me something for me to keep at my desk while I work. He's come up with some cool stuff!
