Just Another Day In The Neighborhood

in Black And White10 months ago

There's nothing like living on the approach path for a major airport. That conversation stopping shriek of jet engines a few hundred feet overhead, over and over again at regular intervals every single day of the year. Louisville's airport has 'international' in the name but passengers are largely an afterthought, cargo is what it's all about. There's an Air National Guard unit flying C-130s stationed there, but it's UPS's global hub that really keeps the place hopping, during the holidays they've got birds coming in every 3-5 minutes.

"Hey! Take my picture! . . . Oh shit, that's my bus!" Louisville is a hot mess. Still getting used to people wanting me to take their photo but I'm leaning into it.

Speaking of leaning into it. Anybody want a job being floppy? The sign was for the cash advance place, those legal loan sharks just reinforce my suspicion that those floppy doojiggers are actually trying to warn us to stay away.

Does that count as littering or as an offering for the dead? Kind of trashy if you ask me.

I feel like I see this dude all the time and it's always the same fast paced walk while staring at the ground. Don't know how I haven't gotten a shot of him before now but finally managed to remedy that.

This used to be my favorite coffee shop back before the fundamentalist hipster bros went and ruined it. Now it's just my favorite place to get shots of people getting together to stare at their phones.

What a beautiful picture collection this is. This is looking so Greta

This is looking so Greta

Not entirely sure how to interpret that but you are correct. Henceforth, my style of photography shall be known as Greta!

Now it's just my favorite place to get shots of people getting together to stare at their phones.

I'm noticing more and more that this is the most common activity around me, regardless of whether it's solo or face-to-face with another person. Signs of human evolution? I don't think so, in my opinion. On the contrary.

Thank you for sharing with us in photos a little bit of Louisville with us!

You ain't kidding. Refused to get one myself for many years just because of how entranced everyone was with theirs. I think there's a case to be made for it being a sign of human evolution, if you look at it just right. Phones represent rather advanced toolmaking skills, and the distraction, deception, and manipulation that they are used for seems to indicate a rather evolved cognition. Whether that's adaptive or maladaptive is something evolution isn't particularly concerned about, it has a rather harsh test for that. Personally, I don't think it quite rises to the level of all that, on evolutionary time scales phones aren't even a blip. Give it another decade or two and something new will replace phones and we'll have and entirely new set of bad habits to deal with. Things to look forward to :)

Hey, thanks for dropping by and checking it out!

This is a very extraordinary moment. Only lucky people can catch visuals like this. The photo I mean is in the first picture

Thank you. Lol, it was incredibly lucky, I was tracking and shooting the plane and had no real awareness of anything else until after the fact.

Seeing this picture reminded me of my childhood. Whenever we saw such a aeroplane, we used to see it. It made us very happy. Such pictures are very special. Everything looks very beautiful.

Sounds not too different from my childhood, seeing an aeroplane was something of a special treat.

Living near an airport is just a noisy mess and one can't really complain.
Your pictures are beautiful, I guess that's why everyone wants one with you.
You have a way with words, very interesting, and great clicks too.

I mean you can complain, but nobody is going to be able to hear your complaints over the planes :)
Thank you!

The pictures are nice and I love that of the coffee shop and I hope it becomes your favorite coffee shop again so you can give us so many pictures of it as much as possible

Thank you. I'm working on finding a new favorite coffee shop so I don't have to worry about that but thank you :)

Another day to take and share amazing photograph shots. They are all looking beautiful

Indeed, thank you!
