we've come unstuck
adrift from our moorings
ship to shore, it ain't working anymore
there's gunfire in the halls
bullets coming through the walls
welcome to the free-fire zone
that we all call home
more guns than people
more bullets than sense
is this beloved freedom's
due recompense?
"More guns than people" was just like the case of mass shooting.
It's the case with every mass shooting here, there's something like 1.2 guns for every person in the United States. We have 4% of the world's population and close to half of the world's civilian owned firearms.
4% of the population and 25% of the worlds prison population.
I knew we were number one but didn't realize we had that big of a chunk. Goddamn.
When such incidents happen, the people living there face a lot of trouble because the police are everywhere and investigating. From the Pakistani police, she always arrives late.
Sounds like the police aren't too different no matter where you are. Where I grew up nobody hardly bothered with calling the police, by the time they showed up it was going to be over with one way or another.
If you don't mind my asking, which part of Pakistan are you from?
It's very odd to see media and police continue to publicize the people that commit these crimes. They should know better, and they in fact do: https://www.google.com/search?&q=media+publicize+shooter
They collectively seem to have the same schizoid mentality as the person who recently decided to shoot and kill his former coworkers to prove how easy it is to get a gun and kill people with it, towards the end of gun control.
It's less odd when you consider that media's raison d'être is to sell advertising. They've got to make sure you've got the fear so the ratings stay up and they can charge advertisers more. Things like public safety are at best secondary and as often as not, none of their concern. I think in this particular case the police were just excited to have something that doesn't make them look bad, and that's probably true to one degree or another more generally. Or at least that's the only reason I could think of that makes the slightest bit of sense.
Thing is, they don't always do that. We had two mass shootings that week, the first one killed a friend of the governor and the press and the police was all over it, even released bodycam footage within 48 hours. The second was in the predominately black part of town and it barely got a blip in the press and the police still haven't identified the shooter(s) or released bodycam footage.
They're having the bank shooter tested for CTE, which would explain at least some of the dissonance there. Some of the local media did some digging in their archives and found footage of him from when he was the star of a local high school basketball team, playing with a helmet on due to past concussions. I don't think it'll ever make sense but that's about the closest we're going to get I'm afraid.
Sorry to say I don't understand properly that what concept of your post, is this anything about police case? 🤔
Sorry, I probably should have included an explanation. Three weeks ago we had a mass shooting here in Louisville and I took photos at the scene and then at the memorial and community vigil afterwards. The words are something I wrote when I got home from that and was trying to process what had happened, thinking about the situation here in the United States.
Locking out or safetying off energized equipment in switchyards for more than two decades, one of the first things they teach us is to display that ribbon right side up.
Ha, I bet. I took an electrical class at the vocational school when I was in high school, at this point I don't remember much from it but I don't think I'll ever forget Lock out/Tag out. Whose switchyards were they? All we have around here is Chessies or whatever they're called now.
