cousins

Rowena. Aka Weena. She's Bo and Lorena's baby. She's got her mama's bashful mannerisms and saucy strut. She's got her dad's bossiness and big beak.
Last year her parents had a baby I called Minnow. Minnow disappeared one day and we were all devastated.
This year, we have little Weena. She's still here. I'm afraid to get close to her. Afraid to get attached. But it's happening anyway.

It always happens.

Weena's dad, Bo, is Junior's older brother. Junior has a baby named Bartt. So Weena and Bartt are cousins.

This is Bartt.

Bartt's probably close to two months younger than his cousin Weena. She hatched sometime in May. I think it was almost July when Bartt busted out of his shell.
I don't know all the intimate details of crow lives, but I do know that they keep in touch with family. I imagine that Weena and Bartt must know each other as family, although their perception of family is different from ours. I've seen families fight over turf and nesting trees and food, feathers flying. Then someone shouts "hawk!" and everyone bands together to kick that fucker's ass out of town before he can eat any of the kids. None of that previous shit they were fighting over matters anymore.
Until the hawk is gone.

But enough of my crow lady ramblings. Weena and Bartt. That's what's most important, here.
Cousins.
I don't think they look very much alike, though.

Aww look at how bedragled they look in their teenage stage. They are lovely and I can understand you don't want to get attached, but how can you not?

What you have described as family is very much like people too, but in this day and age I think that the average crow is more intelligent that the average Joe if you know what I mean.

Such beautiful birds, I like Weena, I am sure she's going to be sleek and beautiful very soon. 🖤

🤣
We won't tell the crows this, though. Don't want them getting all big-headed about it.

Lol, they really are very clever birds but we won't tell them. Whenever I hear someone use the term "bird brain" I get secretly offended on behalf of the really sparky ones.

Me too! Another lame expression is "eats like a bird." Birds eat all frikkin day long!

Birds of a feather do flock together, though.

Oh for sure, a pelican is always a good example to use against that saying.

The funniest thing is the pelican
Who's gular holds as much as his belly can

These photos are incredible.

Thank you!
