My Entry to #Monomad challenge: Architecture and Nature Through the Lens of Black & White Photography

in Black And White2 months ago

I've noticed lately that I've been taking photos whenever and wherever I can. It's become a part of my routine to discover new things and revisit past ones, helping me appreciate the beauty of everything around me; whether it’s nature, people, or architecture. These three subjects have become my favorite to photograph. Among them, I find capturing people the most challenging, while nature and architecture are the ones I feel most comfortable photographing.

Out of these subjects, I believe architecture works best when turned into black-and-white photos. The lines and forms of buildings become more pronounced and easier to appreciate in monochrome. I’m not entirely sure why black and white suits architecture so well, but it just feels right most of the time.

For today’s entry to the #monomad challenge, I’m showcasing two black-and-white photos with distinct subjects: one of architecture and the other of nature. I chose these two to see whether the black-and-white technique is versatile enough to be applied to both subjects. I also want to explore how differently they appear when presented without color.

The photos I’m sharing today were taken a while back. The architecture shots feature some MRT stations I passed by, which I thought were interesting subjects for black-and-white photography.

I'm lucky to be surrounded by such striking architectural buildings, which provide excellent material for my photography and challenge submissions. I particularly love the ceiling features of the new MRT stations, which are both creative and innovative in design.

For the nature-themed entry, I headed to the riverbank to capture the beautiful clouds I saw while riding the bus. I didn’t want to miss the opportunity, as it’s rare to see such stunning clouds.

It’s been raining a lot lately, and the sky has been mostly plain gray, which feels dull in comparison to the vibrant scene I experienced earlier.

I'm excited to hear your thoughts on how these two subjects... architecture and nature; compare in black and white. It's always a rewarding challenge to experiment with different styles and see what works best!
