One of my stinky plants got some sunburn last year. It is hard to protect them fully from the merciless heat when the balcony faces east and south, so all they can get is a shadow from taller plants. This one must have been sticking out for some time.
At least it's still alive :D
This is Huernia and I call it stinker because the flowers, though very cute they smell terribly. Just imagine have a rotten animal in a pot. I am not exaggerating here - they just stink. The purpose for that is to attract flies to pollinate the blooms. Not bees, not butterflies... it has to be flies. Why? I don't know. They are weird like that :) Maybe there is not enough bees where they naturally grow and it's was just easier to start producing the awful stink to attract whatever was left.

The scars that few of the stems have are dried up, do not spread, but will stay there until the stem dies.
I don't really mind the look - it kinds odds a bit of character. But it is a pity it had to get that damage due to my neglect.

Below you can see tiny roots growing along the stems that could not reach the soil.
If you check the first or last photo you may notice that there is only one, very short stump in the middle. This was the initial cutting I got. The top of it died, but it grew two offshoots. One is ery small, the other one is the main plant now. But because it grew higher, it id not touch the soil to grow roots on its own.
I removed both sides now, itched the old middle part and planted it all new. Now all the tiny roots will have a place to grow.

The darker spots are normal, the scars obviously not. It probably should be a bit more green too, but since it was relying on the old stem only and now own roots, I'd say it wasn't getting enough of it.

Oof! remember that they love heat but grow under bushes in nature. You are lucky it survived the sunburn
Yea I know and I am trying to place them so they do get the shade most of the time. But the sneaky sun always manages to catch them :p
I have the same problem when the seasons change and the sun's angle shifts. Sigh....

Good thing that it doesn't died, and still ok except for the sunburn.
the same thing happens to my only orchid at my house. At first I thought it was seated by some slug or snail, until one morning I realized that it was my fault to not notice that it got exposed to too much sunlight.
Yea, so far so good. I am counting on some flowers this year too :)
Orchids are equally sensitive to sunburns. Not many can handle the direct sun - most grow among trees so they are shaded.

This one surived but I had few more that I really liked and they didn't make it.
We lost some of our succulents warriors during last summer... Not a lot but still enough to see the free space :/
But I brought fresh cuttings from recent visits, hope it will work 🤞
By the way, would you have some tips for the soil and/or special tricks that I didn't know about succulents ? I can always ask Internet, but I prefer a sourced answer hehe :)

It is always sad to see a dead plant, but as others grow and need bigger pots the free space is kinoff welcome ;)
I do my own mix. No special recipe or proportions. I am picking some very sandy soil or sand in the woods. Just make sure it is not too fine. Smaller rocks are very welcome. And then mix it with some compost, lava rocks, an perlite. It has to be fast raining an loose. So maybe (an that is just rough, I don't measure anything) 1/3 of the compost an the rest is sand and rocks.
I do the same for cacti, but for succulents I add a bit more of the compost. Cacti get more rocks and sand.
Yes, and then when they go into the compost they become matter again... and sometimes even reseed and cut themselves ! For the moment the new ones seems to be well 😇
Thank you for these recommendations, I'll really have to learn how to do that, to prepare my soil better, it's a bit shameful that I didn't start earlier... but maybe the small size of our flat is partly to blame ^^
