I can't manually check every single account to see if it's legit, brand new and lower rep accounts get proportionally lower upvotes anyway, I got notified just today by my moderator @libertycrypto27 about this one.

    Do these accounts need to send & of rewards to "balaenoptera" to get your upvotes?
    I have noticed that they have this set up.

    It’s a percentage set by default on a shared community account, those funds are powered down and used to reward authors who participate in the contest #untobisunto with a weekly topic and pinned community poll to choose winners.

    Upvotes have nothing to do with the beneficiary and authors are free to remove it as they please.

    Setting balaenoptera as a beneficiary is not a requirement to receive support in the community but it is appreciated because:Hi @hivewatchers I also answer this question because I help @fedesox manage the balaenoptera account.

    • @balaenoptera is an account that uses and will use 100% of the rewards it receives from community members to redistribute to the community through initiatives to incentivize content posting and interaction of hivers who write on Odb. Balaenoptera is not an account that has profit goals (which can be checked from here: https://peakd.com/@balaenoptera/wallet) but has the main goal of increasing the onboarding of new hivers and in particular increasing the number of Italian language content on Hive because there are few of them.

    For example, this post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but it received 100% fedesox vote

    In the past, a poll was done in which Odb members chose a fixed percentage of 3% as beneficiary rewards for those who post in Odb versus a free percentage.
    There are members who have decided to leave 3% and others who on their own initiative choose 5% or 10% and others who post without beneficiary rewards using front ends that do not have the beneficiary option set.
    There is a weekly contest where Olio di Balena members can vote for the best post which must have requirements (minimum 500 words, original content, proper source citation) and voting is done through a poll.

    There will be other initiatives in the future that will reward those who interact the most and those who have medium to long-term goals on Hive.
