I watched through Twin Peaks in 2015. I loved it, but i was already fairly familiar with its reputation and had seen some of Lynch's more experimental movies under my belt. Then there was the long haul of very awkward episodes that felt very much of their time and genre, rather than the warped fun house mirror image I'd been presented. And then, somehow, David Lynch returned. I don't think I've gone a day since seeing "Beyond Life and Death" where I don't think about Twin Peaks or am reminded of it, not just in other media but day to day life. I don't know what wand David was operating with that cast a spell on the network tv bean counters, allowing this episode to pass approval. Much praise has been heaped on the 18 hour surreal epic of Twin Peaks The Return and what a singular event it was. But nah. It was lightning striking twice and this was the first time. They just let the man take America on a nondual spirit journey. Any serialized drama, horror, sci fi series with a bit of creative freedom you've watched since 1991 owes it's existence to this hour of tv
