RE: Cuteness overload at 7-11 in Taiwan

in Liketu2 years ago

We're big on Hello Kitty in this house, having raised a toddler in Hong Kong.

One time, my daughter L (4), her friend M (also 4) and his baby brother J (3) were contemplating a big rubbery Hello Kitty face stuck onto the front of our fridge with suction cups.

[Baby J prods the face repeatedly, hoping to hear a squeak]

J: Why she don't make a sound?

[Long pause as three kids stare at the thing. Eventually M speaks]

M: Maybe it's because she don't got mouth.

I envy you in 7/11 Heaven!

PS I have a soft spot for Gudetama myself...

awhh!! The kids are soo sweet, and smart little M!!! People do say Hello Kitty can't speak because she doesn't have a mouth 😄

Gudetama is cute, I don't believe it's very well known in UK? How long were you in HK for? I imagine that was in the good old days which is long gone now

Yeah, I miss that Hong Kong horribly. More than some departed humans, I must admit! I was there from late 1992 (spent most of 1991 in Taiwan) until 1996 (was newly married and having a baby around the time of the handover). Then Beijing from 1998-2000 and HK again from 2000-2002 (returned to UK after that).
