At that time, the nobles, and very wealthy ones were the coffee producers. The first picture is the main house, and the owner used to host the customers that would travel from far, so there are lots of rooms. The second picture is a chapel, or church.

How come the coffee producers lost their edge? What industry did they move into instead?
A lot of things changed at the time, but the main reason was a huge drop in coffee prices in the world. Most were owned by aristocrats from Portugal.
