What is the identity of this strange fruit in Kuala Lumpur.

I found a strange fruit at a local market in Kuala Lumpur. This pine-cone looking fruit is called pulasan, which looks like a lychee.

It is more expensive than the rambutan, but the rambutan has a thin shibu skin that clings to the seed, which is a hindrance to the taste, but the pulasan has no skin, so it tastes great!

The price of pulasan is 8RM/kg (about 300 Japanese yen?). You can only buy from a minimum of 1kg, so I bought about 10 pieces

I think it's one of the types of rambutan. The ones at the bottom of the last photos sure is rambutan

Indeed, the inside of the skin is the same for both.
