Oh, how I miss this valley

in GEMS5 years ago

I miss this little valley and some other places in Slovenia, which are only about one hour of driving away, and yet unreachable.

Šunikov vodni gaj
Triglav National Park, Slovenia

So today I want to share some photos of the Šunik Water Grove (Šunikov vodni gaj) in the Lepena Valley in Slovenia with you, which I have made last Autumn, Winter and shortly before the Lockdown when the world was still in order.

September 2019

The first two photos were made in September and show a close-up of the beautiful mossy green boulders in the stream, and the middle part of the waterfalls there.

Further down in this post, you might remember this little pool on the right in the photo below if you see another photo where it is frozen.

October 2019

After parking your car you have to walk for a few minutes on a nice trail along the stream and when you arrive at the water grove this scene is what you see first.

❖ please click the image for fullsize view ❖

The bridge on top of the image leads to the circular path around the water grove, but at first you should go left to the base of the first and biggest of the waterfalls. Later you will see this waterfall photographed from another angle.

Hope is a subtle glutton

Hope is a subtle glutton;
He feeds upon the fair;
And yet, inspected closely,
What abstinence is there!

His is the halcyon table
That never seats but one,
And whatsoever is consumed
The same amounts remain.

by Emily Dickinson

The next photo shows the view down the stream when you reach the upper part of the waterfalls. You come from from the the left side and have to go to the right over the bridge to continue the circular path back to the beginning.

On the left side you might recognize a little part of the beautiful beech tree forest where I am also very often practicing woodland photography.

December 2019

This photo shows the same trees as the photo above, but photographed about 2 months later from the bridge, viewing up the stream.

January 2020

There was less water in the stream, but ice and some icicles were to see in January, and maybe you recognize the pool which was in one of the other images above too.

Written in a
Little Lady's Little Album

Hearts good and true
Have wishes few
In narrow circles bounded,
And hope that lives
On what God gives
Is Christian hope well founded.

Small things are best;
Grief and unrest
To rank and wealth are given;
But little things
On little wings
Bear little souls to heaven.

March 2020

My last visit to the water grove was in March, but because there was more water in the stream than I had expected I was rewarded with a beautiful view and one more photo of the big waterfall at the beginning of the water grove.

Hope

Hope is like a mountain strong,
That rises fair and even;
With pearls and diamonds strewed along,
That mark the way to heaven.

by Eliza and Sarah Wolcott

Actually, I wanted to go there in Spring when the snow melts on the mountains and the waterfalls are mighty and beautiful, but as you all know, there's no chance to leave my own country at this time.

But I do not moan nor complain, because we are doing well and life is already getting more and more "normal" again.

WOW! The waterfall is very beautiful no matter whether it's in Autumn or Winter. And I'm quite sure that "it will be mighty and beautiful" in Spring, as you said.

Apart from the waterfall itself, I also love the surrounding nature; i.e. "the beautiful mossy green boulders", "the beautiful beech tree forest", "the stream", etc.

Great capture! Thanks so much for sharing. These make me feel really refreshed. ;)

This spring I won't be able to get there, but I am pretty sure, that next spring will even be better than this year, and the autumn is also very beautiful there. Hopefully until then the borders will be open again. It makes me happy that you enjoyed my photos @tangmo 🙂

Thank you so much for your kind words and compliments @tangmo, I wish you a great Sunday. Take care and stay healthy.

My pleasure! I do hope that the borders will be open again very soon and I look forward to seeing your beautiful photos until then. ;)

Many thanks for your kind wishes. Have a wonderful week and stay healthy! ;)

Our measures have loosened and I do hope that I can go somewhere soon, because it's getting really boring to visit the same few places all the time ;)

Thank you very much again and have a great week @tangmo 🙂

Yeah! I do really hope so.... ;)

You're welcome! And thanks so much for your wishes. Take care.... ;))

Such a magical area .... such beauty ... I believe you miss it ... I can imagine how much nicer it is live ... but you managed to capture a fraction ... when the borders opened right there ....🤗 @johannpiber

As soon as the borders are open again I will sit in my car and have a nice day right there 😉

I do hope, everything is fine and you and your family are still well. Thank you so much for your kind comment and compliment, @suzana72 🙂

Yes, thank you vey much, we are well and fine too - the family is the most important thing in such bad times we have now, and we have to take care that they are safe.

Beautiful place and lovely photos. It must be very nice to hear the water flowing quietly in some places and then splashing noisily down to the bottom. I think I could find a corner and sit there the whole day and enjoy the natural environment. Cheers!

That's exactly what I am missing: sitting there and enjoy the water, the splashing and the noise and the walks through the woods.
Thank you very much for your nice words Vincent, I do hope you are well and have a great day 🙂

I am very well, thank you. I hope you are keeping well too. And a great day to you too. :-)

Hope that you will be able to go there soon, and share more amazing photos of this beautiful place.

I heard that your country started to ease lockdown, so fingers crossed 🤞.

Have a great evening @johannpiber, stay safe and healthy.

Yeah, I think after Austria is going back to a more normal life the Slovenian might follow and crossing borders will be possible soon again.

Thank you for your nice words @cezary-io, you stay safe and healthy too, take care of your family.

Stunning shots! The September 2019 photo is my favourite, it's magical! Shared :-)

Thank you so much for your nice compliment and for sharing my post Keith, I really appreciate that 🙂

This is one of my favorite places and that photo was actually shot at another little stream behind the forest, but I don't want other people to know that, because it should stay tourist free ;)

Bang, even on HIVE I did it again... I just rehived your post!
Sorry, no beers or deranged or trdo yet... waiting on steem-engine to make the move to HIVE...
Week 3 of my contest just started...you can now check the winners of the previous week!

Thank you so much dear @pixresteemer, and soon I will be able to say thank you with a !BEER 🙂

wow, magical!

I love that place - so near and also so far away - thank you for your nice comment @tobetada 🙂

Wow, das sind mal echt wunderschöne Fotos. 😎

Lovely memories! Its fun how relative distance is. 600 km within one country (this is dist i will drive on this weekend) is less than 1 hour between countries...

Anyway, as I know, Austria is relaxing measures, right?

Yes, it's not far away, but unreachable at the moment. 600 km? That's about as long as our whole country is ;)
That's right, we are slowly getting back to a kind of normality, and I hope it's not too early, because the people are already behaving as if there was no danger around anymore ... I hope this won't make it al worse.

And I also hope you are well and everything is fine, my dear @zirochka 🙂

Im fine, dear Johann. Today we have a record number of daily deaths. I still think we doesnt reach our peak.

600 km is as long as your country? Of course not, it is longer! ))) You fogot condition of roads, lol. Even so, I very much look forward to hug my daughter. 1 more day and I go.

I wish we all overcome this virus and move on. Take care, my dear friend!

You are right, Austria is only 580 kilometers long and I have never driven on Ukrainian roads, but the roads apart from the tourist routes of our southern neighbors Croatia and Albania are not much better I believe ;) ... so your journey will be a hard one, but with a sweet end 🤗

I do also hope that we will all overcome this virus, but I think this virus will accompany us for quite a while and "normal" living as we knew it a few months ago will never be the same.
You take care too and get back home healthy 🙂

Sad to admit, but Croatian roads are much better. I can say "You better come over and try it yourself" but I don't wish you that :)

Yes, the virus will not disapper in a few month but I hope that someone will invite the vaccine, or our hoslitals will be better equiped and not overloaded. This is what works for us - to do our best and hope for good.

Thank you so much for good wishes!

Oops - well, in that case I don't think my old car would survive your roads, so I think I'll better stay here ;)
Let's hope, that a vaccine will come soon and that it works. In the meantime we all should do our best to avoid getting infected or infect others ... and hope, as you say.

Amazing landscapes and beautiful nature!

Thank you very much that you like the photos @always1success - I do really miss this place and hope to be able to get there once again soon 🙂

Hi @theunion, I thank you so much that you have chosen my post, I do really appreciate your vote a lot 🙂

Such a very beautiful place; I can well understand why you miss going there. I hope the madness of this illness soon comes to an end so we can move around a little more freely again!

=^..^=

Austria is already on the way to a kind of "normality" and we will see how people will handle the few restrictions we still will have, but life is getting easier here :)

Thank you very much for your kind comment and support @curatorcat.ccc 🙂

Hi Johann...

Du wirst im Mai wieder dahin fahren können.

Liebe Grüße

Peter

The photo of the water Sept 2019 reminds me of someone kneeling Johann. Lovely long exposure making the water falls look silky.

Hm, it took me a while until I believe I see what you meant Jo, am I right when I can see a white person kneeling?
I love such long exposures where ou still can see the movement of the water and soon I'll be able to post new photos again 🙂

Have you seen, that some of us are back in the League? We want to motivate and boost the numbers a bit, but I have become such a lazy commenter, that I don't think that I'll be on the list next Sunday ;)

Hope you have a great day Jo 🙂

Yes that’s the image I see if I stretch my imagination. :)

I haven’t seen the League post yet. I’m sure you will be in the top ones. As for me I spent quite awhile each day responding but do well to keep in the colors.

Today has started off sunny so that’s a good sign. Have a great rest of the week Johann. :)

Cool, I needed all of my imagination to see it ;)

I think at least I have become a bit lazy and rusty - means, I'll have to force myself quite a bit to comment more, but since the other big names are also back it might be great fun 🙂

Our day started sunny too, but now, as I am going home in a few minutes dark rain clouds are rolling in, but we need some rain anyway, so I don't mind ;)

!invest_vote

Johann I didn't see your name in the top section of the league. Didn't you tell Asher to omit you for awhile when we were on steemit? You were taking 1st place a lot and thought you would give others a chance.

Hope you add yourself again as you deserve a good spot.

My decision to rejoin was made yesterday and I start as beginner, just like the others.
Don't expect me to be on top this weekend, because I really have to force myself to comment more again ... I have become really lazy in the past months and I have to admit, that this rainy afternoon I haven't done anything at the computer ;)

... I or better said we will earn our hopefully good spots, but it's all for the fun 😉

I hope the sun is still shining on the Island and wish you a nice afternoon Jo 🙂

I’m glad you rejoined. It is fun and does push one to comment more. You do wonderful with comments.

I’m really one who doesn’t normally give long comments but I am trying to make a bigger effort to expand my remarks. Not quick & to the point as is my personality. :) It’s also got me in trouble .

I can see why you would miss this area, the beauty is remarkable and the shots you get from there are extraordinary

Soon you will be able to head back there so hang in there

Right, I will go to my waterfalls again and you will have your beach and the other beautiful places back 🙂

I have parked my bike in the garage at the office, because it's raining heavily and use my wife as my chauffeur today ;)

for sure, but my plan when this settles down, will be to go and visit the grandkids and start looking for a house close to them, then busy packing up where we are now, busy but fun times ahead

Right, you haven't seen them for quite a while and of course, you must be missing them a lot. I hope that you will soon be able to visit them, and I completely forgot that you wanted to search for a house near to them.

we have been calling them regularly but its not the same as visiting

Yes, I do also prefer to see my family instead of calling them, but our measures will change in the next days anyway, so that visiting my sister or my parents will be nomore problem :)

yeah I saw that ion the news things opening up there, that's great news for you all

A very beautiful and inspiring place. This is a photographer’s paradise :-)
Great photos my friend!

Yes, that's a great place, also the forest is beautiful and behind the forest there is a smaller stream which is much better than this one in my eyes 🙂

Thank you very much for your kind comment @bambuka, I wish you a great day 🙂

I hope you show it :-)
Wish you have a nice day friend!

I have already showed some photos, but never mentioned that it is this small stream ;)
One photo of this stream is the first one in this post with the mossy green boulders. Somehow I don't want other tourists to find this place, because it is very clean and you don't see any "footprints" of tourists there, if you know what I mean 😉

Have a great day too and a wonderful weekend my friend 🙂

I understand you very well. In my forests, too, there are corners about which I do not even speak to friends. Unfortunately, such places are becoming less and less. But the forest is big. I can find others if necessary. But it is sad.
Happy holiday to you!

It's good to keep the location of such places for yourself 🙂
The normal tourist stays on the tourist paths, but some are curious, such as I am very curious to find new places. But you will never find any waste from me nor would I destroy anything or disturb the animals - I'm no "normal" tourist :)
Some places should stay secrets, because they become less and less, as you say, because tourism is always searching for beautiful places they can "sell" to paying tourists. But keeping their location for us will help them to stay natural and clean.

!invest_vote

I support :)
If there is a choice to go to your favorite familiar place or go to unfamiliar corners of the forest, I choose the second. Also ... I try not to leave any traces after myself. Even the cut mushrooms I either hang on the trees for birds and squirrels, or mask in moss so that they do not attract anyone.
The best forest for me is dead corners where people do not appear :)

Большое спасибо @johannpiber :)

Nice this little valley photography.

Good morning and thank you very much that you like the photos of my favorite valley in Slovenia, @kamrunnahar, have a great day and weekend 🙂

Howdy sir johannpiber! Holy smokes, that makes me want to travel. What a paradise looking scene and scenery! I can see why you miss this spot!

I was just about to go to bed when I saw your comments - good evening @janton 🙂

Hopefully soon I will be able to go there again - it's just about an hour of driving away from me. I wonder what it looks like now in springtime when nobody has been there for months. I love that place and the title is honest, I miss that valley.
Thank you so much that you like the photos my friend. I hope you are well and everthing is fine 🙂

Hey sir johannpiber, I hope the restrictions are lifted soon before the summer is over. How is it looking over there? It is not pretty here in TX. The numbers are going up but we still opened back up for business yesterday and I hope that wasn't a mistake.

Today our shops have opened again and the restrictions have loosened. Until the end of May almost everything should be about "normal" again - a so called "new normal". We will see what this is and how it will work.
People are already happy and if you drive or go somewhere you would not believe that there were any measures for many weeks.
I do also hope that this wasn't a mistake.

What about the borders to the country, are they opened to so the stupid tourists can come back?

Nope, all borders are still closed and only people who work in the other countries or deliveries are allowed to cross the borders. Of course there are some other reasons too which allow you to leave your country or enter ours, but I don't know them.
There won't be much tourism this year - maybe Germans will be allowed to spend their money here in Austria, but that's not sure yet. We will see in a few weeks how it all works.

Ah Germans...yes..some of the most successful Amazon book sellers with this program are from Germany! I saw an interview with one of them, he'd only been working at it for 8 mmonths and he was already making $16,000 per month.
