First Attempt At Digital Art

in GEMS3 years ago (edited)

Its been a while since I last posted and truthfully it is because I was out of ideas. Okay that was a lie, I had 2 ideas which I took a note of on my phone, but I was not in the mood to post them. So, I decided to download Krita after and learn some digital art.

When it comes to art, I am used to the traditional style of paper and pen or pencil or whatever tool I want to use. It gives me full control over my techniques but I wanted to try out digital art because it looked appealing. So I made a sketch on a paper of a random character I found on a trending anime called Jujutsu Kaisen. So why did I choose to draw this anime character named Todo?

Let me drop a picture of this person and turn the tables at you: Tell me why I shouldn’t have drawn this character? (I mean just look at him) Now for the actual reason, I wanted to practice facial anatomy and I was initially going to draw a full body image for the digital art but since it was my first attempt, I decided to go a bit easier on myself.

Here is a picture of my sketch and I placed the digital drawing right beside it. It took 2 hours and few breaks. Now lets talk about what I could have done better: I personally think the hair color choices could have been better since they don’t blend too well. Moreover, the lines could be neater. I would also like to improve on the shading process since this art piece does not have shading. In terms of what I like about this art, I liked the color choice for the face and the body as well as the scar.

I started this whole Krita experiment with no real structure but after playing around with it and taking a 72 minute walk (picture down below), I had a chance to clear my head and make a plan to approach things differently. I decided to take on a 30-day Krita challenge where I will track my progress and what I learn on my diary. I made a plan about what exactly I need to improve on and how long I should spend everyday to practice this. More importantly, I have been lucky enough to find a group of pros at Krita to ask for critique (if you are worried about criticism, I hope this post I made a while ago can give you some insight: How to Deal with Criticism on Hive . I am planning on making this a 3 post series of Krita. For my next post, I am hoping to share more insight as well as specific tips and tricks which helped me improve as well as progress pictures.

For anyone else who is just starting out with Krita, take 15 or 25 minutes everyday to get it started, I used the Pomodoro technique to stay on track. If you are confused about what this is, check this out: Power of Habit: Book Review and My Thoughts. Before I end this post, feel free to share some of your thoughts and insights about this digital art and your criticism about how it could have been better

Have a lovely weekend

Great job! Keep doing this drawings and you'll become a pro in no time! Patience and dedication go a long way! 😎

Trippy thank you for this. Heheheh I will make sure to keep up with it. (^▽^)

That's a really good first attempt! I like it that you do hand drawing and work that way. I think Krita is a good tool for you to use. Something I found helpful, in terms of drawing figures, is to study anatomy and draw it for a better idea of that. Another thing that helps, is very fast sketches (30 seconds - 2 minutes) of people in public (they are always moving). It will train your eye fast and then you can translate that into what you are creating for digital work.

Nine that is a very solid tip! I will spend more time learning anatomy. I like the idea of making quick sketches of people in public. That will definitely help. Thank you so much 😊🤗. I was thinking of making an avocado to practice some shading. Heheheh I will show it to you when I finish it. I will get started on that now.

You're welcome, I've found it very helpful. It's a good idea to do an avocado to practice shading. I kind of now want to see what you'd make with an avocado, heehee. Please do show me and enjoy the process, play around, that's the fun part.

Respond to this please because I'd like to show support for your digital art. Sorry I missed this one.

Hahahaha Dandays hope you are doing all well. Also sorry if my response timing has ever been slow. I try to respond on time whenever possible. Thank you for checking this post out. I am hoping to catch some time today and have a look at what dandays has been up to on his blog 😆

I'm lucky to post once a week. I have one right now I'm still editing that I'll rearrange reword edit the shit out of til tomorrow morning. Two in one week is a BIG deal for me.

You see these people with 300-400 posts in their first year?!? I just barely crossed 400 and it took me four years. 🤷🏼

I so wanna click your... Your button, I swear I do. Sooooo close. You don't reblog a whole lot... that's a huge plus. I can feel.. But I.. almost...

There it is.

💖

Dandays don't feel forced to post too much if it starts getting in the way of other things! You definitely need to make space for all of the priorities and also take a break.
I think you are doing a pretty good job as it is with your current posting amount.

One of my major reasons for not reblogging a lot is that I don't want a person who visits my profile for the very first time to get confused about which posts are mine and which posts are reblogged since sometimes even I don't read the reblogged part when I visit other people's profiles lol.
