A Double Delight Tree Rose

in GEMS4 years ago (edited)

Last year, I decided to get myself a tree rose. I picked the Hybrid Tea Rose Double Delight as I have experienced its beautiful booms in my first home.

This was a photo I took of it a while back when it started to have buds.

And it is blooming right now!

"Double Delight' is one of the best known and most widely grown modern roses throughout the world. No one knows whether its name refers to the two contrasting colors in its blooms, or whether the 'double delight' is its color and its scent." — Quest-Ritson, 2011.

It has beautiful double blooms that are somewhat informal and old-fashioned. The flowers are very large on long, prickly stems, and usually borne singly,.

The flowers have a strong, sweet scent. There are about 30 petals per rose of rich, creamy white edged pinkish to strawberry red in very eye-catching color!

It is has a fantastic fragrance! Everytime I open the door, the sweet and spicy scent would waft into the air.

It is intoxicating!

She is pretty, isn't she?

Except for this last photo, all photos were taken in the shade.

In the sun, their color changes from white to carmine red, beginning at the edges.

A beautiful tree rose!

Ms. Saver @silversaver888
I Have to Ask this Question, I am Wondering if BEES !LUV Roses Like This ??
See What I Did there ??

Turns out, roses don’t really produce a lot of nectar, mostly pollen. Bees seem to enjoy single roses. Your classic long stem double roses aren’t attractive to bees, but single roses are open and loaded with pollen and perhaps even some nectar. Honeybees are known to not like red roses.
No wonder I am not seeing bees at all!!!

The BEES Love You Ms. Saver so Keep Your Chin Up............

Ms. Saver I Think Hummingbirds would !LUV Your Roses Too.......

Roses are not only gorgeous in and of themselves, but they will attract other gorgeous pollinators to your garden. Thus, roses not only liven up the garden aesthetically, but they will attract and promote new life.

Thank you, @keeryorth.
I am glad you like it.
So you have a rose tattoo?

Gracias, @kerryorth.

I am surprised by the height but the flowers are stunning

This is a tree rose, meant to be sort of a topiary.

Hello dear friend @ silversaver888 good afternoon
What a beautiful rose plant, I love its combined colors, I never had one like that of two colors,
I appreciate that you let us know this beautiful plant
have a beautiful afternoon

It is pretty, isn't it?!
They are prolific!
Have a wonderful afternoon, @jlufer.

They are a favorite to so many, their beauty and fragrance are legendary! I will tell you the truth: The Double Delight is true to its name, it is a delight to smell and a delight to look at.

That is truly why they are called Double Delight!

A stunning specimen! I am so glad that you showed it off!I really love it and had forgotten how beautiful it is! Thank you for sharing the beauty! #alwaysaflower

The many blooms greet me each day in the morning when I wake up and when I get home in the late afternoons from work... the yard is where I go to smell the air while I enjoy its beautiful flowers.

They'll be blooming for another week, after which I would deadhead each tired bloom. Temps here are very high, and I dunno if I could have another repeat bloom. I will let you know.

In the meantime, I am very pleased with this rose. I am glad to share it with someone who knows and is familiar with the variety of the rose.

Truly, you are a ray of sunshine, @dswigle!

If they go by the norm for tea roses, they tend to bloom on a 5-to-7 week cycle. After they finish blooming, they will rest a few weeks and then produce new flowers.

I'll be waiting! This is such a beauty you possess. How often do you feed it?

I feed it a weak solution of Miracle Grow once a week, as long as the temperature is below 90 degrees. And I have 4 Miracle Grow Flowering sticks embedded on the sides of the pot. I water it twice daily, in the morning and again in the afternoon. Several months ago, they had aphids and I used the 3 in 1 garden spray.
Ohh, I am enthused!!!

OMG! I have aphids on my rosebush right now! :( Why do they love my roses? It is full of blooms and I just sprayed them last night, hoping it doesn't kill my roses.

Le sigh.

Every time I see them, I am glad to see them before they do too much damage. I know I need to feel my plants a little, I never feed them. What kind of mother am I? ❤️

Hehehe... I only have a few plants outside, and a bit more (in numbers) inside the house... and that is how I am able to care for them. You prolly have thousand of plants!

No, but, my gardens are layered so that when the time is over for one plant, there is another coming in to replace it.

A very beautiful tree rose! Maybe the Double Delight is due to the change in color as the sun hits it? I can almost smell it by looking at your pics. Thanks for sharing and enjoy it!🤗😘💕🌸

Hahaha, and that, to use @dswigle's words...a delight to smell and a delight to look at!
I will have another week of blooms and in the meantime, they get larger and larger!!!
What a delight!

Hugs and Kisses sis 🥰🌺🤙!!!!

😘🤗🌸💕

Very nice. seems like you gave it two additional support. Wonder if this graft easily.

We get killer wind storms here. I just gave it additional support!
I have not tried making a tree rose. I leave the grafting to Rosarians.
Have a lovely day, @ace108. Thank you for this opportunity!

You're welcome

Just beautiful @silversaver888!!😀
Do Tree Roses require the same care as regular Roses? Very interesting I am not familiar with three roses, thanks for sharing my friend!!😀

They are specially designed roses, @silvertop.
They are grafted roses onto the top of a rootstock.
In my first house, I had the Double Delight as a bush.
I love its unforgettable smell and beauty of blooms.

Sounds lovely @silversaver888!!!😀 It's always very impressive what can be produced with grafted plants.
I didn't know that Dwarf Alberto Spruce trees were a grafted tree, until a "full size" Spruce started to grow from one side of the dwarf tree! I am sure you have a very lovely garden!😀

Great roses, nice green thumbs 😉

These blooms are definitely the best for this kind.
They smell great too!
Thank you for checking them out, @orlandumike!

Oh how BEAUTIFUL is this rose tree of yours! Awesome coloring. My one and only rose bush is in rough shape. It needs some major TLC or we need to start over. You have a dandy of a rose .. Be proud! 😍

Oh, give it TLC and you'll see, it will give you blooms!!!
The colors on the flowers of this rose are very pretty, no two roses are the same!
I could take photos of them all day.
