RE: Mastadon - Another Failed Social Network?

in Proof of Brainlast year

I really like Mastodon a lot. It feels a lot like the early Twitter, back at the beginning when it was more like a group SMS and was small enough that everyone knew everyone else (kind of like Hive now). I like it much more than Twitter/X. On there people are just fighting. Twitter mobs are still a thing, and everyone else is screaming about politics. I despise it. Mastodon is much more friendly. It's also much easier to mute keywords on there, which is nice.

But yeah, you do have to find the right server. I am on a Japan immigrants server and we all talk about mostly Japan stuff. It's fun. I think Neoxian runs a Mastodon server.

You are right about Twitter. It is too much extreme views about everything to click bait and get impressions. Many people are posting way to much to try and monetise. Worse are the many blue tick scams and fake airdrops all over the place. I think only Instagram is worse.

That is cool that you found a good Mastadon server, I can imagine if you have a good community around, then it can be pretty good and nice to use. The App itself is great I think.

Actually that's the cool part. There are so many different apps for Mastodon and they are all different. It's kind of a playground of ideas, similar to how apps on Twitter used to be way back before Twitter started to demand their apps standardize. I'd love to see if Hive did something similar, with many clients all doing different things. We kind of have that now, but the two big clients (ecency, peakd) are still pretty similar. I guess liketu is pretty different.

Anyway, it's a fun place as long as you aren't hoping for too much. I pop on to respond to some toots (what they call messages) and post one or two of my own for a few minutes every few days, so not much, but it's nice. If you want to experience the place more, here is my name: @dbooster@famichiki.jp

That sounds cool if you have your community setup, similar to Hive. Nice without all the Twitter type disturbances. I gave a you a follow and will see if I stick around there. 😀
