It is the year-end and many people will get to ask themselves a lot of questions. Questions like:
What’s the Purpose of Life?
What is the significance of living?
Why do I exist?
What is life all about?
Why am I here?
What am I doing here?
What is the purpose of life?
What is the purpose of MY life?
The above questions swirl through our minds at different points in life, and many people are nowhere closer to finding answers than they were when they first had the thought.
Discovering the purpose of something avoids its abuse as purpose guide your decisions, influences your behaviours, and shape your goals. Purpose gives you a sense of direction, so you don’t just float through life aimlessly. Purpose determines your day to day actions and helps you achieve your shaped goals, be they short or long-termed.
Purpose does a lot for the one who has found it, but there is no one purpose for everyone. The question as to the meaning of life is unique for everyone. It gets an answer from within each individual who asks the question. Each person will have to discover the answer by themselves.

However, different our lives purposes are, they fall within some general options, some of which will be shared here. The uniqueness of your life’s purpose comes from the very fact that you are a unique being. While your mission may look like that of the next person, you get to live it out differently because you are different from the next person.
From the list of possible life purposes below, find one that resonates with you deeply. Find one that satisfies your curiosity and answers your question satisfactorily, and that may be the answer you seek.
Be Happy: Being happy sounds so simple, but it seems to be one of the hardest things to attain. Many people see happiness as the highest virtue, and different authors have written on how it is your sole responsibility to make yourself happy. Achieving a stable state of happiness is significant enough to be a life’s purpose. It takes a constant deliberateness to stay happy in a world where everything seems to threaten your joy.
Usually, if being happy is your life’s purpose, your happiness will be linked to that of many others. What this means is that in working on your happiness, you simultaneously work on the happiness of others.
What does happiness mean to you? It could be anything and many things, but it will be vital to your peace of mind. Explore this answer and live it. Does it fulfil the search for your life’s purpose? Does it satisfy your curiosity about the significance of your life? The answers to this question will tell you if you have found the purpose of your life in happiness.
“Happiness is a form of courage,” says Holbrook Jackson.

For some, their life’s purpose is to leave a legacy behind.
A legacy doesn’t have to be something huge and be noticed by everyone, and it doesn’t have to be for the whole world. Your legacy can be a little thing of value, and it may be for just your family, but it has to be your creation.
It might be your beautiful family where you nurtured love and positivity and started the ball rolling on spreading love and light. The purpose of your life might be to leave a legacy if this resonates with you and satisfies your soul’s search.
“Carve your name on hearts, not tombstones. A legacy is etched into the minds of others and the stories they share about you,” says Shannon Adler.
Image SourceLove Others: The power of love has been sung over millennia, and the melody will remain for millennia to come. Love is a healing agent which is sometimes indescribable, but its effect is unarguable. It is also not found in everyone.
Certain people share and spread love everywhere they go. They do this effortlessly and leave no doubt that they were made to do just that. These people bring with them a more positive and productive light and aura wherever they go, and they leave that place better than they met it. Such people were born to love others.
Does this resonate with you?
Some people have been hurt more than they care to count, and yet they seem to produce love for others from within, if this sounds like you, congratulations! You just might have found your life’s purpose and the world needs you. Go on, spread the love!
“Think of love, dream of love, live of love,” says Abhijit Naskar.
Image SourceMake a Positive Difference: There is more bad than good and more negativity than positivity in the world. There are also people whose purpose in life is to make a positive difference in the world.
Such people live to put a little good in a world filled with evil and a little positivity in a world of negativity. Does this sound like you?
Do you always see the bright side of life?
Is the cup always half full?
Do you always see possibilities where everyone else sees challenges?
If yes, you might be on earth to make a positive change.
This purpose is no easy feat, though, as there are too many reasons to cry, and there are times it seems the sun would never come out from behind the clouds. If the purpose of your life is to make a positive difference, you will always find a way to create a smile, and you will see stumbling blocks as stepping stones.
“The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to make things better,” says Robert F. Kennedy.
Image SourceFind Something Worth Dying for: Some people have dedicated their lives to a cause, and nothing stands in the way when they are focused on fighting for that cause. Such people have a purpose in life to fight to the death for that cause. They have found something important enough to justify their suffering, and they will stick to it till their last breath.
Is there a cause you are passionate about that everything else pales in comparison?
Are you ready to climb mountains and cross rivers to see that cause achieved?
If the answer is a resounding yes, you might have found your purpose for living.
This calling is one of sacrifice, but those called see it as the reason for their existence, and they follow it faithfully. Every suffering feels like nothing compared to seeing their hopes fulfilled.
The cause might be something many others ignore, and it might be something which others have tried and failed. Still, the need to pursue it consumes you and takes over everything else you hold dear. Does this resonate with your feeling towards a cause? You may be living your life’s purpose. Well done!
“There are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they are worth dying for. And I submit to you that if a man has not discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live,” says Martin Luther King Jr.

There are many answers to the question, ‘What’s the Purpose of Life?’, and it is by living, by experience, that people find their life’s purposes. They dig and search and discover, and then they dig some more. The cycle continues, and they find more and more truths about themselves and their purpose.
Our life’s purpose is a journey, and it is by living our lives that we discover why we are living.
