What?
The tattoo artist's goal was to resemble a character from The Lord of the Rings. Spoiler: he succeeded, but to do this he even cut off his nose.
There are many things a fan can do to express their admiration or to get closer to their favourite person, most of them stop at social media followers, logoed clothing or maybe cosplay. But there are also those who go further and go to extremes to get attention or express themselves.
The Lord of the Rings franchise, for example, has a huge fanbase (it is no coincidence that John Rhys-Davies, who plays Gimli, is travelling to Budapest Comic Con) and you see fans dressed as orcs at every major geek event, but one Brazilian tattoo artist did not stopped at make-up.
Who?
Fernando Franco de Oliveira underwent a major physical transformation to resemble the orcs from the Lord of the Rings films. The man told CTV News Canada that it took him ten years to get tattoos on his body and a number of surgeries, including ear surgery, a nose job and a tongue separation.

He had black ink injected into his eyes, horns put on his head, his teeth replaced with vampire dentures and the skin on his head painted blue.
According to Oliveira, the most life-changing body modification was the trimming of his nose: it is still very painful for him, because he gets a lot of water in her nose when he showers. However, by his own admission, he is not done yet, as he wants to have more skin removed from his face, slim his jaw, and get bigger horns on his head.
Why?
The question arises why anyone would do this to themselves, but the tattoo artist has the answer: he believes that most people in the world are the same, and he wanted to be different, to stand out. Well, he succeeded.
He is certainly managing to be different, but at the cost of his health, his personality, of being the same.
I think it is a high price that you are paying and it has always seemed to me that these types of actions are very close to low self-esteem.
Cutting your nose off, and taking off a part of your skin is not just/only a high price, but also a crazy thing to do. He literally mangled/maimed himself. Even if he is a true, dedicated Lord of the Rings fan, if I think about it more deeply, then I say that he is kind of insane for what he did to his own body.

Wow, what a way to stand out and be different also. One can not underestimate the passion of Oliveira picking out transforming him self, which i quit dangerous. I must say i respect his zeal, but No way, I'm not taking such a risk.
Me neither. If I ever would "transform" myself into "something else", then that would certainly be a beautiful and appealing character, but I would rather not transform myself into anything else. I prefer to be myself and keep my identity and my personality. I think there are much better ways to stand out from the crowd, without losing your identity and personality in the process. And everyone is unique in their own ways, even if we look similar in the aspect of outside appearance.

That's a weird flex but okay, you got to love the dedication though you love what you love
Yes. Weird and ugly. But a true (truly extreme) Lord of the Rings fan. He literally turned himself into an Orc, which is the ugliest species in the whole franchise. At least in my opinion.

now that is dedication. It's still insane but the dedication is admirable. I hope he doesn't ever want a normal job.
He probably could not even have a normal job. At least seeing how he currently looks, I doubt that any employer would employ him. But I can imagine him as an actor. Imagine how he would play in a Lord of the Rings movie.
