Coral tooth fungus!

in FungiFriday2 months ago

Hello everybody,

I was walking trough the forest of national park Heidestein in my home town of Zeist when I discovered a strange object on a dead birch tree. When I came closer I was very very surprised of what I saw.

I white "blob" full of a string like structured mass something 😅 No clue how I need to describe this, but it was something I have never seen before in my life.

Look at it? Have you ever seen this kind of mushrooms?

After a quick online search I discovered that it was a rear find in the Netherlands and it's called, "Kammetjesstekelzwam" free translated it's Combs spines fungus.

Its a saprotrophic fungus, commonly known as coral tooth fungus. Have you ever seen this in your country?

During this walk i had only my telephone with me so I didn't take nicer pictures of it. But next time I will go back with my camera and take better pictures of it.

Thank you. It was a very cool discovery.

Good morning @haastrecht
What a peculiar and beautiful mushroom, I have never seen a mushroom like it
Congratulations on this beautiful find

Yhank you 🙏 it almost looks alien

Wow, this is the first time I have seen this mushroom, it looks so beautiful and amazing.

For me to. It's a real beauty.

Yum did you harvest it? Very nutritional and good for the brain.

For real? I am scared of harvesting my own mushrooms. I have now idea if there are poisonous mushroom that looks like the eatable once 😅

All hericium are edible and there aren't poisonous lookalikes. I would rate them as an easy beginner mushroom to forage (they look so strange). But if you want to be extra safe there are plenty of mushroom kits that can grow these i.e. lion's mane grow bags. https://fatmoonmushrooms.com/products/lions-mane-grow-block

I might get some of these this winter while the mushroom foraging season is over.

That's a good one, try growing them selfs.
