Dear Lauryn:

You had the loveliest light blue eyes I'd ever seen and cerulean highlights lilting in your long tawny hair when you approached my table at the Buena Vista Roastery that day.
A knapsack over your shoulder, and a sketchbook in your hand.

I was the man with the calico beard and baseball cap staring down the barrel of a laptop, writing an article about something I didn't care about for someone I did not know.
And I just wanted to say today what I couldn't figure out how to say that day:
The second I saw you I was captivated.
And I wish our paths hadn't had to part like that.

※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※
You were a young artist from Asheville, living in a van for the summer and making ends meet with your commissions for drawings and decorative apparel.
You showed me your portfolio and we spoke at length, each trying to get a read on the other until eventually that brief chapter of life we shared came to its conclusion, and you walked out the door and into someone else's story.
I know that the coffee shop was packed that day, and that finding a free spot to sit and draw and drink your ginger tea and generally just be that outlandishly damn attractive wasn't all that easy.
I'm glad you found that spot by me and I had a wonderful time talking, but I can't help but wonder:
If it hadn't been so crowded in there, would you still have taken the same spot?

※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※
Before you left that day you gave me a sticker with a picture of the moon you drew.
He's a jade-green crescent guy with a great big nose and a squinty eye and a little pink bandaid on his neck, chewing on a blade of dead yellow grass with gritted teeth.
I stuck him on my car's rooftop cargo box, where he's fixated with all the other stickers that are together starting to tell a bit of a story about this weird wild and wandery tentlife experiment of mine.
Maybe someday fate will catch a glimpse of him as I go driving by, and decide to let me have another chance with you.

※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※ ※
But until then,
best wishes and good luck out there.

I think you mean topped with.......
green-eyed monster dudelusions
LOL
#dudelusions is now trending
LMFAO
#dudelusions is trending. How on earth do you see that?
*Correction
#dudeluded
That's past tense for a dude who stole something unnoticed.
#dudeluded is trending, @otherbrandt confirmed. I think your eyes are just getting that shade of greener green because you didn't come up with it.
By Jove, fate has smiled upon me! Can't thank you enough, @dandays.
Well, well, well, that's some kind of poetic writing you have happening. Beautiful. I'm both liking the artful dcity cup photo story and laughing.
Slamming @brandt in small italics, well, well, well...plot thickener
I think the pros call it poetic prose, if it comes out of the oven right. Glad you enjoyed it! :)
dCity doesn't really have anything to do with this story, but that's the only coffee mug I have in my car, and I needed a coffee mug model for the photos, so… there you have it.

I'm all new to this writing thing and have no clue what I'm doing. I've now learned something, thank you, it all helps. You have a way of writing that appeals to me a great deal.
HA! I knew it! That was the coffee mug you had on hand. It looks a little trampy campy psychedelic, so yeah, I like that.
Thanks for the pizza!
You very clearly do have a clue. Can't tell if that was sarcasm or not, sorry.
My whole world feels trampy campy psychedelic sometimes. The government must have put something weird in these mushrooms.
hee, hee, depends on what kind of clue 😉.
Seriously though, been a visual artist all my life, creating with words is all new as of 2020. I've always been of the mind that words, writing are not my medium, as I've watched others create art with words. Visual art and music are, so it's been quite the trip to go in this direction.
re, the gov't......well.....
It's in the air, in the water, in the soil, in the food, in the everything....if you get my driftwood drift. 😉
Well based on my reading of all the available clues you're very good at creating with words so I hope you keep doing it.
I actually don't get your driftwood drift but if I had to venture a guess I'd say… someone put something weird in these mushrooms.
Well thank you @otherbrandt, I'm going to continue hammering away, since I'm enjoying it.
Someone definitely put something weird in these mushrooms, but not only the mushrooms.
I heard that.
whispers, whispers, whispers of nothings of whispers of smack @otherbrandt good with that hammer
I heard that. Tell brandt if he comes at me I'll be waiting with a machete.
@brandt, it's hammer against machete, bring some other, um, implements ;)
I heard that. Otherbrandt's goin' down. Hold my beer I'm 'bout ready to big-dick 'im to death.
🤣
Holds your beer. Beer is precious and must be kept safe from @otherbrandt's interference. Big D him all the way.
