I know you have clicked because you were curious what kind of Optical Illusion I want to show, maybe it's one you haven't already seen 😀
Waterfalls and optical Illusions
PhotoFeed Theme Contest - Long Exposure Photography
But you have to be patient, because at first I want to show you a little waterfall, or better said the bottom of a waterfall which I have photographed a couple of weeks ago in the Vintgar Gorge in Slovenia.

This image is my contribution to this week's PhotoFeed Contest and the theme of the week is Long Exposure Photography: Long Exposure Photography.
But now to the promised Optical Illusions: Well, maybe the images are only looking weird in my eyes and you might say "hey, these are just normal waterfall photos".
About 4 months ago I have been in Slovenia and at the beginning of the Radovna Valley, a beautiful valley between Bled and Mojstrana, there's a little river that falls down a couple of metres. The waterfall is man made and was looking nice enough for me to stop and to take a few photos.

When I opened the photos at home I thought I had done something wrong when I have taken the images because the tree trunks, or maybe these have once been wooden posts, looked as if they wouldn't belong to the image - somehow it was a kind of 3D look or as if the posts were swiming on the water or even hovering over the water.

Of course it was all completely normal: the water was moving and blurry, while the posts were still and sharp. But have a closer look at the images: doesn't it look like the posts are hovering over the water? There's even a shadow below the left post on the ground.

So, now please tell me, don't these photos look weird?
So much for the optical Illusions, and now, at the end of this post I want to show you two more photos I have taken that morningfrom this little waterfall. It was about sunrise time and there was already a light morning colour shine to see on the water.

The first photos shows another old rotten tree trunk or wooden post standing alone in the flowing water, and in the second one, the sun was just rising a little higher and lit the waterfall partly quite nice.

All photos were taken with the Canon EOS R and one of these lenses: Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon EF 16-35mm 1:4 L IS USM, Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 L STM, SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM, Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6,3 DG OS HSM C.

I will try to replicate this shot next time, but I think it's just the fact that I have focused on the log or wooden post or whatever it is and the waterfall in the background is out of focus and blurred anyway because it was a long exposure shot.

we are in lockdown for the next weeks, and I'm not sure if it will be longer. So next time will definitely be next year, but I will go there again and then I will try to make the same photos or even better 😀

Superb photography, yes they do play tricks on the eyes with tree truck and water flow, surreal and calming at the same time.
Light playing onto small section of waterfall another glimpse with movement and still.
Spending time outdoors imagining ways to capture a moment of illusion to remember, excellent once again Johann.

Photography that stops you in your tracks, makes you think about what you looking at is good! Levitating log or waterfall it has a great feel drawing you into the frame captured.

Yup! I thought you had two exposures on top of each other. These are weird photos indeed! Very spooky too. You had the patience to wait a long time for the right moment!! Beautiful waterfalls photos.
Believe me, that's exactly what I have thought at first - the camera has done something wrong or I have accidently set up a function which I didn't know 🤣 they are weird indeed 😏

Beautiful photos here and yes ir rally looks as if the logs were floating above the water.
Now I need you to go there and sit down for half of the day until you see a fish jump up out of the water between those logs. Maybe it will jump up sooner and then you can be on your way 🤣
But sadly with my luck I will leave and as I get into the car a fish will jump up to wave me goodbye 🤣

I see so often fishes jump ou tof the water in the mornings, sometimes they jump at the same spot, but as soon as I am ready with the camera they swim somewhere else or just don't jump anymore 🤣🤣🤣 !LOLZ

Well you are lucky as you know the time that they jump.
So go an hour earlier and sit quietly waiting. They will not feel any vibrations and you will be out of their eyesight.
Better still ask Mrs. Google what the fish at the waterfalls eat and go get some. then you put the feed into a little netting bag, put a stone in it for weight and toss it in between the stumps.
Just a matter of time and you will have an unbelievable photo.
I can see three fishes jumping up out of the water between the stumps in my minds eye and it looks terrific 😘
No one has a shot like that and it will be a top seller.

Hahaha, you stir some funny memories in my mind of that battery giving up the ghost the moment that I click the camera 🤣
I always have 2 spare batteries in the bag on my shoulder, but by the time that I have changed the batteries, the shot is gone 😖
I call these incidences "meant for my eyes only" and somehow it makes me feel better 😥

That's so true, I have also a couple of spare batteries in my backpack, but I never change the battery when the indicator gets red because I need to take one more shot before the light is gone or the insect flies away... of course, right when I could take my best shot the camera shuts down 🤣

My reason for leaving the battery in when the red light is on, is because a camera technician told me to run the battery totally flat before recharging it. He said that then the batteries will last longer and he was right, as I still have the original batteries.
But yes, when it decides to die on a click for a beauty, then I feel like throwing the battery into the sea, or into the dustbin 🤣🤣🤣
Btw. I think that there was a James Bond movie called "For your eyes only" 😘Hahaha, @joanstewart told me that a yellow billed Kite came to sit close to her and she didn't have her camera, as she was walking the dogs. A case of "For your eyes only" 🤣

I am staring at the rock/ rocks sitting on top of the water, Hannes. Must be an optical illusion or weird or something. :)
Wonderful long exposure in the photos, dear Hannes but my eyes keep going back to the rocks sitting on top of the water. Truly magical!

I needed quite a while until I realized that it's just optical - because the water was moving and these things were completely still this weird look was the result.
