"A wise woman puts a grain of sugar in everything she says to a man, and takes a grain of salt in everything he says to her."

When I talk about sugar, the first image that comes to mind is all those obese people driving around in golf carts.

Those people that we generally see as representatives of health challenge programs like in Discovery Health are the deadly kilos and people who are large amounts of overweight precisely because of this problem of ingesting large amounts of carbohydrates and a lot of sugar.

And this happens because precisely in these countries of high consumption and high level of consumerism, food companies imbue all their foods with large amounts of sodium and sugar precisely to feed this addiction and these people become so exceptionally overweight, so much so. Several of us have even seen cases of people who, due to being overweight, are not able to go through a door.

It's quite scary and I can personally say that I have overweight problems. Precisely because during my adolescence and youth I committed many excesses.

And now that I am an elderly adult I am suffering the consequences with circulation problems in my legs, ulcer and diabetes. Because I am diabetic I have had an ulcer on my leg for four months that has not been able to heal, it cannot heal and it hurts a lot at night. You can't imagine what it's like to have to go through that pain without medication, because I'm a person of limited resources.

Public health here in this country is useless, it is better to die on your own than to attend a public health site. And the option of going to a private doctor is very expensive and unfortunately there are people who do not have the resources to be able to afford that.

Because the mere fact (many people here in Hive have a hard time understanding that), the mere fact of spending the rewards that I earn here on Hive or any other additional income that I have to allocate it for a medical visit, to go visit a doctor to cure this, it means that I am left without food for the whole week. And I cannot afford that luxury because the living conditions I maintain do not allow me that.

But what I'm here to talk to you about is sugar and the way I control it, the way I fight against this anxiety, (because obviously that makes me very anxious) and what I usually do is drink large amounts of water.

I have learned that by slowly drinking water my anxiety goes away, to the point that I can tell you that I only consume sugar approximately once every 15 days. I haven't consumed sugar for a long time, only when I feel that my body needs it.

I grab and buy some food that has sugar, for example a banana or maybe a fruit like papaya, that has a little natural sweetness and with that the need for sugar calms down.

As I said, I control the intake of sugars, only when I feel that my body really needs it, that I have that need, because I feel it, I perceive it and precisely when that happens to me, I always try to have a banana or some sweet fruit, some leaf of stevia which is a natural sweetener to be able to consume it.

And in case I don't have it, I try to have a small cup of sugar saved, so precisely when these emergency cases appear, I take a teaspoon of sugar and the need subsides.

Regarding whether or not there is sugar in a drink, the truth is that I would drink it and I drink it anyway, it is not something that worries me too much because I used to try drinks that are naturally sweet, and since I am used to drinking water, It really doesn't make much difference.

The only thing I don't like to drink without sugar is coffee, I definitely can't drink it without sugar, but fortunately I'm used to drinking very little coffee. In reality, I drink it at least once a year and it is very rare for me to have coffee in my house, unlike my Venezuelan colleagues who have a great fondness for coffee.

And in this way I complete my participation for the topic of "sugar is bad" here on hive learners.

I hope you learned something.

Fortunately I am not a fan of coffee, I rarely try it, and the other thing about diabetes is that it is a problem with that ulcer I have, it is quite complicated to solve, but as always, I have to do it no matter what, or hold on until May it heal naturally or wait until I have some money to see a doctor who will be in a few months.

Sugar has sucrose; hence, we should find food sources that are free from Sucrose. Fruits have fructose, which is a good alternative to sugar. Really, Happy to see you find the overweight problem and have stopped using too much sugar.

Yes, it has been a struggle that is not over yet, because I am still vigilant all the time, and always learning how to control the anxiety that appears from time to time.

Good morning @manclar, definitely processed sugar is a poison as you rightly explain. I am now on my morning coffee without sugar. About soft drinks, I don't know which are worse for health if the ones sweetened with refined sugar or the ones sweetened with aspartame.

Best regards.

They are forms of poison, which come in different forms, enjoy your coffee, at this moment I am preparing to watch 1 hour of TV and then go to bed, since tomorrow at 10 am (9 hours from now), The Corina march begins, and riots are expected. They are flying government drones over the entire capital, keeping watch. Have a good start to the day.

Have a good rest, see you tomorrow

✅ Don't use/cook/buy sugar
✅ Coffee without sugar
❌ Sweeteners. I still can't live without them 😓

Que bueno no ser adicto a la azucar, soy más de cosas saladas y aun así tampoco exagero con la sal.

Thank you, I continue in the fight against sugar, it is a battle, and with salt, I consume it in healthy measures, rationally, since everything in excess harms us.
