So here I am, lying on my bed, after an eventful day, trying to rehearse the day's event.
After titling the post 'a special walk', I'm left with no idea on how to make the post special.
Anyways if at the end of the day you find nothing special, the title might have already serve its purpose. Call it a bait that dragged you in here to start hunting for the special treasure like a pirate. hehehehe
My walk usually starts after work. Today was no exception. I walked some kilometers from the school I'm teaching, without taking any snapshot. The reason was because I had a location in mind, but when I came across nice haircuts displayed on a poster, I couldn't help but take a shot for my Barber.
If you don't know by now that I love neat and sharp haircuts, then I'm wondering which other of my open secret is known to you.
I love the style by the left down corner. I would love my beards to be shaped just like that. If my Barber get right it, I will be kind enough to flaunt it here for all to see.
After the first shot, tons of others followed.
These are commercial motorcyclists hustling for daily bread. I hope they go home smiling.
Traders displaying their wares by the roadside. So typical of Nigerian streets. Save for some sophisticated housing estates, you wouldn't fail to see people selling by the roadside especially in settlements with dense population.
Oh! I'm Sorry dearies. That isn't a blog divider. It's poster of cooking gas plant. I took that shot after remembering the price of cooking gas in the market. I was like "how true is it, that a price of product can increase over a hundred percent in just few weeks?". That's insane, right?
But I'm not sad. I am saying to myself "why cry over the cost of a cooking gas, when you're not done smiling over the smiling over the freeness of the breathing of the breathing
Well, not all insane increase in the price of products is bad. Ain't you praying that dreem token increases more than that? I bet you are.
Few miles from the Trugas plant is a junction, that leads to the newest but one of the most beautiful and serene government owned housing estate in my state. The junction is right where you have the police station's signpost.
The estate's name is Shelter Afrique. You can even see it inscribed on the signpost with an arrow pointing to the estate.
"Mmykel why not go in?" My itchy feet suggested. Well I obliged. Let's hope that it goes.
Just by the entrance I came upon this
I wasn't taught that roasted fishes have magnetic properties, but how come these ones pulled me closer to itself?
No I won't tell you what transpired between me and those fishes. Feel free to imagine. Lol
Let's continue our journey in the estate. Shall we
The who is who in state and outside the state all own properties here.
Just few miles from the rowdy and crowdy hell of a street, lies a beautiful haven.
Now, I'm speaking both literally and literary.
In the midst of ugly circumstances, beauty might just be few miles ahead, if only you keep moving. Should I preach on?
The roads are perfectly paved.
The architectures are excellently structured.
The air is as fresh as a newborn, as the atmosphere is filtered, cleansed, and purified by the well arranged greenery.
More evidence to convince you of the beauties piled up in just an estate.
Still doubting? If you are a Thomas, this should be a thrust of finger through Christ's palm and side kind of evidence.
Do you now believe? 😂
I know you do.
Wait a minute! When I said that I was about to enter this estate, did you care to ask if I was with a compass or if I'm familiar with this terrain?
Well it's too late. I'm lost already. Lol
I'm now banking on my sense of geography. Let's see how that goes.
I came across kids playing football. If not that I was trying to find my way, I would've joined them.
Beside them was a beautiful horse grazing.
I followed the route to another road. Don't forget that I'm still depending on my geographical sense.
Another nice piece of architecture. I couldn't walk and pass even in my frustrated state. Lol.
I navigated to the right.
I moved a few blocks from here and I came across a familiar building. Yes I got it. I'm few miles away from a main road I know too well.
Just before step into the main road, I saw this building with an inscription that bears a resemblance of a football club. I will check it out later.
I stepped into the main road and boarded a bus home.
Don't think that this is over. It only begun.
With some hours left before dusk, I decided to embark on a safari.
It was a journey to my route.
I was to stop at a distance relatve's place. So I decided to buy something for his kids.
Just so that I could watch them smile
I boarded a bike down to the place.
Here's the relative's place.
I was seriously vibing with the rider. You can see him smiling.
Fortunately the man of the house wasn't home. That afforded me the opportunity to walk around the village looking for him, with his son who served as my tour guard.
Walking! Yes. Just what I came to do.
There are about 20 streams and Rivers here. The Rivers and streams contain fine sand, used in construction projects. That explains the rugged topography you'll see. The roads are damaged by tippers that conveys fine sand and gravels from here to every part of the state.
Hence forth I won't speak much. Let the photos do the speaking.
The boy in the photo is the tour guard I spoke of. The information about the village is gotten from him.
His father was said to be in this welder's place
But on getting there, he was nowhere to be found.
We walked the same route back to their house. While awaiting his dad's return I was entertained with a delicious meal. I was half way through the meal, before remembering to take a photo of it.
I was joined with Jerry, the pretty cat in the photo.
While eating their dad returned. He so so surprised and delighted to see me. He's been sending messages for me to come around. Well today is the day.
He told me how he had developed his building and his dreem to develop it even more.
It was already getting dark, but that's him showing me around the house.
I better get going. It's night already.
I groped in this darkness on my way back. Means of transportation is not usually easy to come by when returning from this village.
Today was about the contrast between the sophistry of the city and simplicity of the village, yet with same smiling faces.
I dreem to bridge the gap between the two worlds as much as I can.
Here are my steps.
Bye.
That’s an wonderful tour of the area such a contrast between the busy streets and that estate
I haven’t been to Nigeria but some of the photos remind me of exploring around a small city in Uganda including the motorcycle guys I got lost a bit and used one of them to get back
That sign sure looks like a football club
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk
