Wednesday Walk - Random Sightings

Here are a few random sightings on my walk out with the baby for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay

I saw the newly hatched goslings again, but sadly there were only two left out of seven. I suspect the hawks nesting nearby have harvested the other five to feed their chicks. Lets hope these two guys survive.

Meanwhile on the building behind my condo I spotted a goose that is nesting on the roof. The babies should be hatching soon and making their way to the lake.

The hawks nesting on the parapets are happy that more goose meat is making its way to the lake lol. Those will be some well fed hawk chicks. I wonder if I can somehow get up there to get a shot of the nest...

The lakehouse is starting to look nice against the budding trees.

Meanwhile a plane flew by overhead. I wonder where this thing is going...

Off into the cloudy sunset if flew. Perhaps it is headed to Arizona or California.

Meanwhile there is a huge carp that died on the edge of the lake. There are quite a few of these massive fish in the lake and they are too big to be eaten by wildlife until they die and float to the edge.

I spotted a large snapping turtle swimming towards the carp. This guy will eat well tonight lol.

This duck is not impressed by the carp floating nearby her nest. That thing is nasty, snapper you better drag that thing off somewhere else or property values around here will start going down!

The red-winged blackbird beeps in agreement. Hey snapper move that stinky fish outta here, my babies are about to hatch soon and I don't want them smelling that thing!

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

  • That was a cool walk, so many happy encounters! the goose on the roof, turtle's nose in the lake were highlights of the post for me -- and so much the red-winged blackbird; never saw one myself. !BEER

I have to try and tame that snapping turtle. I used to feed fish pellets to one a few years ago. He was completely covered in algae growing on its shell and head.

    Hey there @sketch.and.jam

How are you? How is life? Oh, the goslings are so sweet but a pity you saw just two of them. I hope they just hid hehe 😉

Sadly I think the hawks got 5 of them, I've only seen two for the past two days. They started out with seven, but hopefully more goslings will show up at the lake soon.

Yeah, that's sad... but I guess it's life.
Let's hope for more goslings then 😊

I hope I can see when the hawk chicks emerge from the parapets.

Some lovely nature ! I've never seen a red winged blackbird before - it looks pretty awesome !

They are quite common and brazen around here. They like to attack people who walk by their nests.

    Thanks again @ackhoo :-)

Love the reflection of the lakehouse but love all your walk, lets hope those goslings do survive

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk, its my pleasure to host it and see all the posts each week from all around the world, including yours, if you have time visit some of the other walks this week there are so many interesting ones

Now I know most only post once a week using the Wednesday walk tag or community and I truly appreciate that and love visiting the posts so for most of you you can ignore the next sentence

I try and be nice and let people know via a comment to only post once a week, but some just abuse it and to me spam multiple posts a week, after asking nicely a few times and being ignored, this morning I regrettably had to mute a couple of people who were spamming the Wednesday walk tag

I suspect the hawks have ruined the gosling crop this year. Hopefully I can get some shots of the hawks as they leave their nest.

well thats the way of nature and the chain of life, would be cool if you can get some shots of the hawks

A good pleasant reportage about the environment and living creatures. Very nice.😉

I wish I could get up to the parapets with the hawk's nest. I'm tempted to get a drone.

What's it? A goose on the roof? This seems to me to be some kind of strange phenomenon. It shouldn't be like this.
Did you say he made a nest there? Maybe he's crazy?

Haha they are crazy but quite a few make nests on roofs and people's balconies. This way the foxes can't get to them as easily. There is a hazard for when the goslings hatch though. I end up having to rescue a few almost every year if the leap on the wrong side of the balcony and get trapped. Then you have to take them to the nearest lake looking for a goose with babies and they will adopt them instantly if you let them go nearby.
