It is sometimes tough to get motivated to go out walking in the middle of winter around here. But if you bring a camera along to take shots of the snow it is worth it. The minimalism of the landscape can spark some creative photo compositions. Here is a snowy walk for this #wednesdaywalk by @tattoodjay
You can also see all sorts of signs of life. I suspect these tiny shallow tracks might be from a bird.
Here are some deer tracks mixed with some rabbit tracks on a frozen lake.
And a human track. The snow is only around 6 inches deep in the unwalked areas. Once this lake thaws out there will be a chorus of spring peeper frogs making a loud noise. For now they are frozen solid underneath my feet.
These dead trees growing out of the lake break up the white surface nicely.
The day was fairly overcast but enough sun was out to cast some shadows. If only there was a large hawk posing on this dead tree, it would have made a perfect photo.
The wind made things a bit too cold for the walk but we had to endure for the photography and exercise. Here is a cat tail getting buffeted by the wind losing seeds along the way.
This is definitely the way to speed along the pathway. Cross country skiing is quite easy here as the landscape is flat and other skiers have made smooth grooves to follow.
There are a few horses around this preserve as well that people take walking in the snow. This one was looking at me wondering if I was going to take it out on a walk.
As we were leaving the preserve someone brought their huskies to go dog sledding.
They were so excited to go sledding and were jumping around barking getting tangled in their reigns. Their owners were having a trouble getting them started so I didn't get a chance to see if the sledding worked or not lol. I suspect they might need a couple more huskies to be able to pull two people on the sled, but you never know maybe they were hyperactive and strong enough to do it.
That's all for now, thanks for joining me on this #wednesdaywalk :-)

The cute little tracks in the un disturbed snow… following little trails.
Yes, a great way to walk around with cross country skiing. I did that a few times, it’s fun.
The sledding looks fun too, never done that before.
Great photos, love the details and close ups. The tree and the amazing sky behind it. 😊Such a beautiful walk @sketch.and.jam
Too bad the sled dogs were being too unruly I wanted to try and get photos of them actually sledding. I suspect they are house dogs that the owners thought they would try and train to go sledding.
That is to bad indeed… normally those sled dogs are very good listeners. They have to be.
Or they haven’t gone for a longgg time so they could have been over excited.
They were definitely over excited. Their genetic memory was probably kicking in as they are bred to be sled dogs. It can be a process to train dogs to focus their energy on a task.
Yes, I can imagine that it is quite a process to do train them
It is hard to get motivated to get out and about in Winter i know I am struggling,b ut you did well some real cool shots,
Cross country skiing or Huskies are a great idea and must love this time of year
Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)
Those huskies have way too much energy. They probably would be fine sledding 7 days a week.
Ohh yeah they are such amazing animals aren’t they
Full of energy, I pity the people who buy a husky that aren't runners, those things needs a few miles of running a day.
I saw in NYC more than once people walking a husky I felt sorry for the dogs no way should they be a city pet
I know, I've seen a few downtown in Chicago as well, then they probably go back to a studio sized apt. I've seen some people train them to run on treadmills though so hopefully they have that if they are lucky.
I had not though if the possibility of them running on a treadmill that would be better than nothing I guess
looks like a lot of fun riding a dog carriage,,,
If you can get them to settle down lol.
ooooo in fact they are outside too huh
They get wild when they go outside.
guess they are savage or not,,,
They just jump around a lot and bark nonstop.
very nice picture my friend. there was still heavy snow. have a nice day
Some years its been four times as much snow, nearly impossible to walk in.
Thank you for taking us on a very interesting walk with you. Very nice pictures too. I specially like the first pic.
That one had the best shadows in it and snow minimalism.
👍😊
I want to ask you if you can hunt deer there because I read about the deer footprints you told about
Farther out in the wilderness deer hunting is permitted and encouraged as their population here is quite large. All you need to do is buy a hunting license.
Thanks for the explanation...
There is also an interesting sport that people do around here called shed hunting. They take their dogs out and look for the antlers that the deer shed every year, and there are even competitions on who can bring back the most horns with their dogs that are trained to look for the antlers. https://www.onxmaps.com/hunt/blog/shed-hunting-tips-tactics-strategies
Sounds really fun.... it's a very challenging race
It can get competitive but it is pretty relaxing being out in nature too. There are all sorts of things you can build with antlers if you happen to find any.
Ya....Right Deer antlers are here as wall decorations
