Merry Christmas, my dear Hive friends! Health and prosperity, happiness and joy!
Today I propose to take a walk in the evening city. I started my walk at dusk. It was about three o'clock in the afternoon, but sunset was already approaching and the short winter day was coming to an end. But the lanterns and Christmas garlands on the trees were lighting up, and with each passing minute we were more and more enveloped in the anticipation of the coming holiday.
New Holland Island is located near the Neva River. The island is separated from neighbouring plots of land by the Moika River and two canals, which means that the shape of the island is close to triangular. To begin with I head towards the sharpest corner in this triangle, this cape looks towards the sunset. The day is overcast, but it seems to be a little brighter here than on the rest of the island.
New Holland Island is a creative space in the centre of St. Petersburg. The old brick buildings were built in the 18th century for drying and storing construction timber. Now these buildings house shops, cafes, creative studios and sports centres. The purpose of my walk is also located in one of these buildings. I walk to the ‘Community’. ‘Community’ occupies a few rooms on the ground floor and it is something between a library, a club and a co-working space. You can grab a paper book from one of the shelves and settle into a chair. Or you can do some quiet work if you've brought your laptop with you. Or you can grab a board game from the rack and settle in at a table if you're here with friends.
While I was at Community, it got completely dark. The weather is quite warm, so I decided to walk around some more. I'm walking along Konnogvardeysky Boulevard towards Nevsky Prospekt. Konnogvardeysky Boulevard is very nicely decorated for the New Year holidays, the blue light garlands are perfect for decorating this place. Other streets are also decorated with light garlands and other New Year's paraphernalia.
Nevsky Prospekt is very crowded, and the recent white snow has already melted under the feet of passers-by. I am walking towards the Kazan Cathedral. A retro bus is on duty near the Kazan Cathedral waiting for tourists. The monument casts a bizarre shadow on the columns of the cathedral. In the square near the cathedral there is a Christmas creche. Kazan Cathedral is an Orthodox church, and Orthodox Christmas is celebrated later, in January. But in our city there are also Catholic and Protestant churches, and parishioners of these churches celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December.
