The WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST - ROUND #8, is hosted by @marc-allaria and the theme this week is- FORESTS OF THE WORLD
Contest rules are HERE
My son brought his drone over last fall and these are a few of the images he captured of the 'forest' surrounding my house.
These trees along the river banks are usually refered to as woods, rather than a forest. It is wonderful wildlife habitat.
The photos from this high in the air gave me a view of my neighborhood that I had not seen before.
Beautiful! Drone photography is so cool! It is crazy to think that being able to take photographs from that high up used to be something you could only do in a helicopter and how many people now have access to them! Very cool.
The thing that impressed me most about the drone was seeing the sky. Living here in the woods I can never see the sunrise or sunset. Sitting on my deck and being able to watch the sun come up was quite amazing to me

This sounds depressing. How dark is that place?
Have you ever walked through the forest? It's that dark.
Yes. I have. And both the sunrise and the sunset too are visible through the trees. But maybe we have different forests.
That IS pretty.
We live on the West Coast of Africa here so we see wonderful sunsets each day. Interesting perspective when considering life in the trees. Variety is the spice of life!

.Cool views. Love the fall colors. Is that a glimpse of your house in the first shot? I have to find a friend with a drone 🙂
How far are you from @ksteem ? He is in your part of the world and just started a new Drone Community.
You can't see my house here.. It's off the bottom of that first photo.
It really is interesting to get that view of your world.
Wow thats cool. Based on a few of @ksteem posts, it appears he is in northern Vermont. I'm kind of middle of Vermont. Lake Dunmore is a good reference point for where I am in Vermont.
PS didn't want to freak you out with house comment. Was just excited about neat pictures and remembering posts about the eagles and the creek. Hope you didn't feel I was imposing on your privacy.
Ha! No worries! There really is no such thing as privacy these days, is there?
Here is a cropped out photo of my house with my son's car in the drive. You can see my bird feeder with a ring of flagstone around it in the backyard and the huge old fallen oaktree. Much of the creek appears bright green due to all the watercress that grows there.
Very nice. "my bird feeder with a ring of flagstone" center of the universe where all the magic happens haha I know I can't walk by a view of our birdfeeder without stopping to check it out. Looks like awesome wildlife habitat. We are doing somethings to make habitat around our new home. Mostly pollenator plants first but but bees and insects will be good for birds too.
I have so many birds that I seldom see an insect! 😂

Drones do offer an interesting perspective, don't they? I'd love to try one but, between the price and my vision, I'd be afraid it wouldn't last long. A professional videographer was using one here in Mankato and it almost got taken out by a hungry eagle. Apparently, you're supposed to be able to fly, compose a a shot, and also keep the drone in your sights all at the same time.
Jeff had a hawk do a flyby of his drone, but he didn't get the camera turned fast enough to get photos of the bird. Keeping it in sight would be challenging for me. Jeff had to keep pointing out where it was. It becomes a tiny spec and I kept losing it.
They really over-regulated them in the USA if I could use a VR headset to fly one from first person perspective, it would be amazing. Legally, that requires having another person as a spotter and staying in their line of sight.
Golden autumn.
What are these trees called? I can't recognize them by sight. 😂😂😂
They are mostly oak trees.
So beautiful the pictures!
Nice view. Thank you for your participation
