20-year-old 3D Art

in OnChainArt5 years ago (edited)

I was about 15 when my brother in law introduced me to Imagine on a commodore Amiga. I was immediately hooked on 3D. I Started learning 3ds studio (dos version) and would eventually make 3D architectural visualization my career. I now work mostly with 3dsmax. I used to love my work but my other passion light painting photography took over and that's what I do for fun now even if I sometimes combine the two.

These are a few works I did back in 2000 to juice up my portfolio hoping to get a job in the industry. Showing these same pics today wouldn't cut it I'm afraid: the tools have evolved considerably, but I still think they were pretty good for the time. The first image also made it into the artists section of the Computer Arts magazine (current 3D World magazine) which at the time made me very proud.

Very cool work. I also started on the Amiga doing some 3D stuff in Imagine 3D. Was nearly Kicked out of art college for bringing these tools into the sculpture department. This was in the 1990s and It was all so exciting to me but my lecturers thought it was sacrilege.

Thanks. Haha. Very recognizable. I remeber the desdain the plastic arts teacher at my school had for computer graphics. He used to say digital art is not real Art. Which became something I had to vehermently disprove. I also had a computer graphics class, but corel draw is as far as it went. I was 19 looking for a job in 3D in the 90ies. I had interviews with department heads of production companies in Portugal who had no clue what 3D was. I emmigrated to the Netherlands and was lucky enough to start in a studio specializing in arch viz. That was the best school.

Oh wow! This looks very promicing for the time when you created them! I think it is the talent and the work ethic which make the difference, regardless of the software used.

Thank you! 😊 Indeed. In the early days I used to think with every new plugin or innovation: next year we'll all be out of a job because everyone will be able to make cool stuff on their mobiles and we won't be needed anymore. That was silly of course as creative work will always be needed regardless of the tools used.

I do lack the patience I had back then to work on 3D for fun. Work has become a lot more streamlined. There's more digging in libraries instead of actually spending time on the nitty gritty which I rather liked.

The response to this post definitely motivates me to pick up on some 3D pet projects that I left in the drawer for far too long. Thank you for that :) In the meanwhile, I may share a few more 3D oldies from the archives.

Talent and grit is never outdated, no matter what you use and when you use it.

I am so happy I could motivate through my humble comment. I actually thought: if you could do that then..... Imagine what you could do now😍

Keep it up, I see great potential!

Whoa I actually love them!!
