HI GUYS
The Hamar tribe lives among the shrubs-covered mountains on the eastern fertile side of the Omo Valley in the southern part of Ethiopia.
The popular Mursi tribe is also one of the tribes that stays around the Omo valley. Omo Valley is home to eight different tribes whose population is about 200,000. They've co-habit there for generations and they have depended on it for their livelihood.
Hamar people are a tribe with unique rituals such as a cattle jumping ceremony, that boys go through to become men. Did I tell you? Their women beg the men to flog them as part of the ritual. During the rituals, these women are beaten till their backs turn bloody.
The women accept these beatings to display their love and support for the initiate, and their scars give them a right to request his help in times of need.
Also, these beating does not finish after the rituals, these women are subject to beatings even after the ceremony at any time the man pleases unless they give birth to at least two children.
Moreover, it's part of the Hamar tribe that men don't need to explain why they beat their women, as that can be done at any point in time they feel it is right. This has formed deep scars on their backs which they proudly show off as beautiful.
