Exciting news and sad news this week.
Let's start with the sad news first: the SPI subscription plan has closed down. There were problems with recurring payments and we had very little control over what was happening, creating lots of checking work for everyone. Here's the post about it.
Thank you to everyone who supported the subscription savings plan - it has distributed over 400 SPI, so that's a win! 😍
Now for the exciting news:
Investors or Extractors? the KE Ratio
Some of you will have seen @ azircon's posts developing the idea of the KE ratio. This measures the amount of HP in a person's account against the HP rewards the account has received and comes up with an indicator:
HP in account/ (Author rewards HP + Curation rewards HP) = KE ratio
You can easily work this out for your own account or you can use this lovely tool, Hive Bee BalancedBee balanced., developed by @beaker007. You can find out more in
If you have a KE ratio less than 1, you have retained all your rewards. Over 1, then you will have removed some of your rewards. We will all want to do that at some stage, but how much is an acceptable amount to you? There seems to be a general consensus that a KE ratio up to 3 indicates an investor. Above 3 (and some are in the 1,000s) indicates an extractor.
Every account is free to do as it wishes with rewards it has earned, but if you are building your account and investing time in Hive, you may want to consider whether you want to give your upvotes to other accounts that are also invested in Hive.
How about Saturday Savers Club?
Well, I couldn't resist trying to find out the collective KE ratio for the Saturday Savers Club! Of course, we have new people joining through the year, so the KE ratio will be constantly changing.
To get round this I took all the Savers that were registered by 1 February 2025 as our starting place (January is when most Savers sign up to the Club).
Here's the results:
Total held HP 399,078 / (Total Author HP 416,747 + Total Curation HP 50,414 = 467,161) =
KE ratio: 0.85
note: shanibeer is excluded from this calculation.
This is a great place to be and what I would have expected from a group of accounts that are interested in saving and building their investment in Hive.
We can also measure the same accounts at the end of the year and have an idea about the effect of Saturday Savers Club. We'll be able to see how much we have grown together.
