In Japan, most middle schools provide school lunches. However, my oldest son’s school requires students to bring their own lunchboxes.
Every school day, he takes a packed lunch and a water bottle with him.
But guess what? He forgot his lunchbox today!
I mean, isn’t the lunchbox the first thing a middle school boy should pack, even before textbooks?
Or is it just that kids these days aren’t all that interested in food?
Still, forgetting your lunchbox seems like a pretty big deal...
I was thinking about this as time passed, and soon, it was lunchtime.
I was working a part-time job that day, so I decided to bring the forgotten lunchbox with me and eat it myself.😉
Normally, when I pack my own lunch, it’s just leftovers from making my son’s lunch, so it’s super basic.
But today, I got to eat a proper, well-prepared bento box, and honestly, I felt a little lucky!
If my son were still in elementary school, I’d probably feel more anxious about him forgetting his lunch.
But now that he’s in middle school, I figure he can handle it if he doesn’t have his bento. He’ll figure something out.
Besides, the school does have lunch options available for purchase.
(That said, you have to order in the morning for it to be ready by lunchtime, so that part does make me a bit concerned.)
Even when it’s cold, the bento tasted just fine.
The only thing that stood out was the wasabi-flavored furikake rice. It turns out that the spicy kick of wasabi fades over time.
But still, it tasted good enough, so I’d call that a win.😊

日本の中学校はランチは給食のところがほとんどだと思うのですが、長男が通う中学はお弁当持参です。
学校のある日は毎日お弁当と水筒を持っていきます。
ところがところが！あの子ったら、お弁当を忘れて行きましたよ。
中学生男子が学校行くときに鞄に入れるものって
教科書より何よりも先に弁当なんじゃないの？？
と思うのですが、最近の子って食べることにあんまり興味がないのかな？
それにしても弁当を忘れるのは痛恨だろう。。
何てことを思いながら、時間は過ぎてお昼になりました。
この日は私はパート勤務でしたので、
会社に弁当を持ってきました。
息子が忘れた弁当は私が食べます😉。
いつも自分の弁当は、息子の弁当を作った後の残りものを詰め込む感じなので超！適当。
なので今日はちゃんとしたお弁当が食べられてちょっと得した気分です。
もし子供が小学生だったら、お弁当忘れたら
私の方が不安になってしまうのですが、もう中学生だから。笑
お弁当が無かったら自分でどうにかしているでしょう。いちおう学校でも購入できるし。
（しかし、ランチは朝注文しないと昼に届かないのでその辺は気になる）
お弁当、冷めてても普通においしいです。
一点気になったのは、この日はワサビのふりかけご飯だったのですが
ワサビのふりかけって時間が経つとワサビのツンとした辛みが抜けてしまうんですね。
でもまあ、味は普通においしいので、これはこれで良き😊

毎日お弁当大変ですよね。
うちもなんですが、最近では＄5持たせて（足りているのかは分からないw）自分でなんとかしてもらうことが多くなりました。先日、日本のお弁当が食べたいと言われ…と言ってもおにぎり程度なんですが、久しぶりにタコさんウインナーを作ったところでした😆
中学卒業まであと4か月ほどなので頑張ります🤣
